That maybe one of my future blog headings!

Hi all, I’m after feedback for my new website http://www.chairpro.com.au
I’d like honest / critical comments please.

ChairPro offers advice and recommendations on the most suitable office chairs for your workplace (home, small or large).

We have clients in the city, although prefer the north shore of Sydney as city parking is a nightmare.

I need feedback on the following:

    1. Is the home page too busy / congested?
    2. Is it easy to ‘get’ what we do at ChairPro?
    3. Is there too much info (or too little)?
    4. Is the menu bar information in the best order?
    5. Is the blog page easy to read/navigate?
    6. Blog topics interesting?
    7. Comments on the ChairPro video/montage promo? (I intend to do more).
    8. Do I need to add a “join the mailing list” app? or
    9. Do I need a ‘newsletter signup’ app or can I set up my blog so people can ‘sign up’ to it? If so, how do I do that?
    10. Mine is a WIX site. I tried WordPress but just couldn’t get my head around it.

I find the mobile version of WIX very user ‘unfriendly’ but don’t have the time, patience, expertise or inclination to change the site in order to get a better ‘mobile’ site experience. Is this a bad decision?

I’m endeavouring to sell our ChairPro SERVICE rather than products (chairs) but as we have an association with a Sydney based chair manufacturer, we will be recommending them (DIA) for clients who want to buy a well-crafted chair(s).

I’m also looking for someone to partner with to recycle old office chairs that need to be removed. I don’t mean to refurbish and resell, I mean to break the chairs down into components (plastic, metal etc.) for recycling. I may approach Planet Ark.
Any other suggestions in this area?

More things I don’t know, and/or I don’t know if they are necessary or if I need them for the site are:

    • Adwords. What’s this?
    • What is a ‘Chat module’? Would it be useful for my site?
    • What is ‘dark’ Facebook advertising? I recently went to a seminar to learn all about FB advertising, but didn’t hear the word ‘dark’ mentioned at all.
    • What is and how do I create a “Google location”?
I am currently reading about Google Analytics and how to access it (correction: trying to get my head around GA and how to use it)… *sigh* there is so much I don’t know…

    Note: I’m considering doing
    1. a series of short videos (1-2 min) about the history of the Office Chair.
Would these be better as Podcasts, blogs or video montage?
    2. a video ‘interview segment’ with my partner about office chairs that would be posted on the ChairPro site and ChairPro Facebook as a series of informative videos.
    Are these ideas worth pursuing?

Please be aware, I am a Luddite (baby boomer), so please treat me carefully… I don’t want a numb skull as well as a numb bum!

    All feedback appreciated.

Georgina (Reed/Write) – Note: I am a writer for my other business http://www.mixbiz.com – that website will be getting an overhaul shortly, too!

    Hi Georgi

I must say the site you have looks really good so far – and does what alot of websites dont do and that is attract customers.

I’d put the phrase -we are a small business…..the one in red typing in a more prominent position up the page a little.

    Few comments on your questions
1 – Wix – We have used wix for both ourselves and a client and we find it more suitable for what our needs are. WordPress requires a lot of updating on versions of patches for different purposes and neither myself or my marketing partner have time to be doing this low value work.

2 – A chat module – would be useful providing you can link it back to your email or mobile device through an app. This really depends on how mobile you are .

3 – Facebook advertising is basically putting up an advert that attracts attention from facebookers. It has to espouse emotional content and not just doing a job.

The comment “Do you have a numb bum” will resonate with a lot of people especially if you animate a short cartoon video with comments.

4 – I read that you have mentioned you want to know if commentary of some description would be useful? What about a radio interview on chairs in the office?

I have a close contact with an internet radio announcer here in south east Melbourne, which is syndicated to USA. His interviews are getting great feedback.

5- Dont forget Stock Photography is very important here for feel on the internet.

If you have a “numb bumb” how can it be fixed?

I like the look of your website, I am clear on what you do from your post above, but I am not clear from your website.

You say you are not a sales agent, but you recommend those chairs, and I am not fully clear on what you do, do in that case. I think you need to make it clearer. Also do you only recommend that other company? Do you get a commission or kickback somewhere along the line?

Also the marketers say you have 7.19 seconds to get me, or I leave your website. At the moment you hit me with Peter March being a chair specialist, with 30 years experience. BUT what is you web site offering, my first impression you are just selling. The call to action is absent.

A question for the SEO guru’s, instead of having the free wix site are you better paying for the basic plan, and have your own domain name for a business. Must admit I am interested for one of my endeavours as well, although its not business related, but just interested to know the SEO benefits or not

Hi Steve – thanks for your feedback.
I have rejigged the home page and as you suggested, put the “we are a small business” phrase in a box in a better vantage point on the screen.
    2. I don’t know what a “Chat Module” is, what it does, or how it works. I don’t know how to use Apps or if I do, I’m using them unknowingly.
    3. I do know about FB advertising and how it works, I just have to get my head around how to actually physically do it. (That’s next week’s chore).
Not sure if I could ‘animate a short cartoon video’ for the Numb Bum idea, as I’ve had NO experience in that area, but I could probably do a video/montage of some sort to create something. I’ll think about that a bit more.
    4. I actually work on community radio (present a music show every week here in Sydney on FM99.3), and can do interviews, and my intention is to get people to give me live (video) testimonials. I don’t do internet radio though… I tried a couple – one in the US and one in the UK but both fell over before anything transpired. Maybe your contact in Melbourne could give me some clues?
    5. What is Stock Photography? and how is it used?

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
I have republished my site, so I hope it looks better now. I have also fixed up the ‘mobile’ view for ppl who only use their phones to browse.
    regards,
    Georgi :-D

    Hi Bert,
I’ve now added a very specific phrase so there is no mistaking what we do.
We are not a sales AGENT. Yes, we recommend chairs from our well-established Sydney manufacturer, because once we visit clients and give our recommendations, they often want to buy chairs, so we’d rather send them to a reputable company than let them buy rubbish.
DIA (the chair manufacturer) is Sydney based and has been in business for 40 years. They get their chair shells from other Sydney suppliers and then make up the chairs at their factory with the best components available. Some of these components are made in Germany and elsewhere, but the chairs are over 60% ‘made in Australia’. We have also designed chairs that they make for us, from components available from various Sydney suppliers.
We ‘make our money’ from our consultancy fee for advising people the most suitable chairs and seating for their workplace. We also do chair ‘audits’ and can get chairs serviced to make them last longer (just like a car). Most people don’t understand how crap so much of the imported (and some local) products are, which usually break and fall apart in a very short time. That’s why we’re here, to help people avoid those pitfalls and give advice about the best chairs to get for their situation.

Please let me know if our “call to action” is clearer now.

Many thanks for your feedback. Most appreciated.

    Hi Georgi,

Here is my feedback. I’ll try and keep it as succinct as possible and provide helpful resources for you where possible. I’ve mentioned a lot of things. Read through it, pick one and improve.

    General Feedback On Website

Have a single Call To Action (CTA)
For your home page you need to have a very obvious single CTA. What do you want them to do when they get to your homepage? A website in the same market http://homeofficemadeeasy.com.au/ has a single call to action that directs people to their catelog. What do you think Survey Monkey wants you to do when you go to their homepage? Sign up for their services!

Ask yourself, what action do I want my customers to make when they come to my homepage?

Make it incredibly obvious – yours currently isn’t

    Focus On The Benefits

Most people won’t get what it means that you are chair specialist…what does that even mean? Focus on the benefits the person will get. Here is some sample copy I just made up.

Have you tried every single chair out there, and still find that you have a sore back and are stiff at the end of the day. Do you want some releif from headaches and eyestrain from sitting in an uncomfortable position all day? Our chair pros have over a decades worth of experience at helping companies and individuals choose the kind of chair that will make you comfier, happier, and more productive. Find out you can increase your performance today. Call us on XXXXXX

A quick breakdown of this copy:

    • I highlighted their pain points. (sore, headaches, eyestrain) that they can relate to.
    • I mentioned the feature (decade worth of experience, we help you choose the right chairs)
    • I finished on the beneift (Comfier, happier and more productive)
    • Call us on…. (Call To Action)

If I had to write one line to get the person’s interest it would be:

Do you want to feel more happier, comfortable and productive at work? Our chair professionals can help. Call us today on XXXXXXX

Again, not the best copy in the world, but hopefully it gets the point across: Focus on benefits.

Honest answer, I have no idea what your call to action is, there are 2 options..

Peter March is the chair specialist – Well that’s great that he is, but really what does it mean, should I throw a party.

LOOKING FOR A GOOD CHAIR? – Sure, but why should I look here.

How about, fix your numb bum here. Now that is most likely no good either, but the other 2, don’t sell it for me.

    Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your expanded feedback giving me a lot of food for thought. Everything you mention certainly helps.
I will systematically look at all the links you suggest.

Everybody sits on a chair and a certain percent wont be sitting comfortably. The uncomfortable sitters are the people we want to reach and help.

I can certainly work with your ‘sample’ copy and come up with something relevant.

After reading your comments I went into a bit of a tail-spin because I’ve spent countless hours over many weeks creating the site, which I now feel needs a huge ‘face-lift’.

I do understand that the home page needs a specific Call To Action so I’ll work on that (and the design/layout) first.

I want to get the home page CTA and design looking great ASAP so I can begin our site advertising as we currently have no capital and debts are mounting, so we need new business quickly.

Peter’s expertise is 2nd to none and we have already helped many people into great chairs, so we just need to get our message out to those who would benefit from our knowledge and experience.

There are so many shonky operators and dodgy chairs available and most people dont have a clue when it comes to telling the difference between a good chair and badly made one. That’s where Peter’s abundant knowledge can really help people.

I’m in the process of getting more testimonials from people we’ve helped, which I’ll add to the site.

Thanks again for your detailed and constructive information. I truly appreciate the time you’ve taken to give me your thoughts.

Hi, I had a skim of this thread and I believe you said that Peter is not a sales agent for the chair supplier. I would ask why not?! The fact is that if businesses are employing a chair expert to advise on the type of chair and he recommends one, there is a high likelihood of them following the advice on where to purchase those chairs as well. It seems to me that he really is acting as a salesperson for the chair company but doesn’t get paid for it. That sucks for Peter but is brilliant for the chair company. You mentioned struggling with debt. Some commission coming in from chair sales would help that.

I’d be approaching the chair company and negotiate a commission rate. He can then take the orders for the customer on the spot if he wants to, pass the details to the chair company and the chair company can speak direct to the client about delivery and payment. Win – win – win. You may be concerned that he could lose a bit of credibility since he may be viewed as not quite impartial but I think you can make that work for you. When he makes the recommendation of the particular company he can quite simply say I do make a very small commission for sales but I would recommend them regardless. Or better still – I have been recommending these guys for 20 years as they have the best chairs around. For all that time I’ve not been paid a cent for it but just wanted you to know upfront that I now receive a small commission for my referrals. If He is taking the order for the customer then I think they would view this as his payment for his work anyway.

Alternatively you don’t even have to mention the commission. Food for thought.

(Apologies if I have missed anything here and have not understood the situation correctly…)

Nathan, I have spent a bit of time updating the ChairPro website.
When you get a tic, please have a look and let me know if I have addressed the major issues. http://www.chairpro.com
I am still to investigate upgrading the site to get rid of the WIX address in the URL.
    Many thanks for your help.
