Hello people.
I often wonder how successful e-books are as a marketing tool. I see them everywhere and I design plenty of them for clients, but I’ve personally never had any motivation to download one.
What’s been your experience? Do they work as a marketing tool or a revenue stream, or has every second business owner just jumped on a bandwagon that crowded with bad design and plagiarised content, and going nowhere?

There are a gadzillion hard drives now littered with ebooks unopened and hardly read.

December 20, 2013 at 12:56 am #1156217Up::0I’ve downloaded a few of Hubspot’s ebooks/guides. They usually have some really good info, but are also free. If I’m buying, I like to be able to riffle through the pages to get a sense of the overall content and whether it’s worth paying the money. That’s not always so easy with an ebook, so I really need to be convinced it will deliver.
December 21, 2013 at 1:23 am #1156218Up::0I am happy to buy ebooks that deal specifically with my business and interests, not just generic – ‘best ways to make money from…’ or ‘ ‘make your business pop with this techinque’ types books.
Unfortunately it is difficult to find ebooks dealing with breeding obscure vegetable varieties, simple ways to combat or live with root knot nematode or how to develop your soil type to suit …I am interested in certain niches but it is difficult enough to find print books on the topics I am interested in let alone ebooks. I am happy to spend money but too many people are just writing general topic books that are easy to write. Not interested in buying those, especially if they are obviously a marketing tool or advertising for a business.
December 21, 2013 at 6:43 am #1156219Up::0Rowan, that sounds like you have a niche. If you have the knowledge you might like to write your own ebooks. They might not make you a millionaire but could be a nice topup.
December 22, 2013 at 12:20 am #1156220Up::0I like eBooks.
Never go to the library any more, and I often have people in business send me their eBooks to look at, so simple answer eBooks will eventually take over from hard print copies.December 22, 2013 at 6:34 am #1156221Up::0Burgo, post: 180228 wrote:I like eBooks.

I know – and at heart I understand – but no ebook is ever going to be the same as holding a ‘proper’ book in your hands and flipping the pages…

I have to agree with Kathy. It can be BETTER!!!
I use to have many things I wanted to read but never found the time to and also found it a real hassle carrying around books/magazines, using a bookmark to remember where you go up to. My pile of things I want to read is quite large.THEN I bought a new Samsung S3 mainly because the screen is very clear and I can use it to read eBooks!!! I bought it online so the cost was low.
It’s made big changes to my life. Where ever I am I can whip my phone out of my pocket and be reading. Using a good App it opens the book at the exact page I last read, if I’m waiting to meet a friend somewhere I can read my eBook while I wait a few minutes, travelling to work on the train I can read by eBook without lugging around a large book. It’s been great. Phone in my pocket = great reading many books.
I’m not a total eBook worm and I hardly read before.
I’m now reading the eBook “The Wolf of Wall Street”As far as making money from eBooks, of course you can. There are millions of eBooks written each year. It’s just a matter of how good it is and how it’s marketed. I’ve put some study into this and plan to write an eBook later in the year. However before I start I plan to attend in Febuary a seminar. World Internet Summit in Sydney 20 to 23rd. For a small fee for 4 days of great content (including a large amount about eBooks it should be real bang for buck.
Check it out here
http://www.worldinternetoffice.com/app/aftrack.asp?afid=1573398Hope you get something out. I’ve met Brett one of the keynote speakers during a 1 day event last year and he’s the real deal. I’ve already put into practice some methods I learnt from Bret that day. So I’m now excited to attend a 4 day event. My plan is this will give a huge boost to my online business endeavours.
My view is if I make a genuine product / service / or information source that’s real quality that people will value, then add good online marketing and methods I will do well.
If you attend this World Internet Summit:

and don’t meet me there (there’ll be lots of people), then reply to this thread and tell me if you thought it was good value.I’d love to hear what members get out of attending this event and if it’s the same as me.
