    Hi All,

Thought you would be interested to know, I recently put a Facebook ad together tailored to show to my demographic of 50+ living in Australia. I did this on the back of several articles I recently saw showing that the highest take-up of Facebook was now in the 50+ age group (my target market).

After one week Facebook is now the largest referrer of visitors to my website. The cost of click thru is about six times cheaper than Google Adwords too.

The visits are not converting into business as yet so will be tweaking and playing with it to see what works.

    Cheers

    Richard

That’s an interesting stat about the 50 plus, I think it has to be true, mainly becuase I know quite a few people on their and heaps of them are in the 40 to 50 range. I haven’t really looked into it much as an advertising tool, although I do click on the ads down the side if I see anything good, so it does work. I’ll have to get my web man onto it…………….he likes a challenge. We did google ads for a while and although it worked quite well, we’re already quite high in google for a lot of our keywords, so paying extra doesn’t seem to be a good idea.

I haven’t used facebook advertising so don’t know anything about how you choose who sees the ads. Just thought I’d share though – on another forum someone mentioned that she looked at her sales data and noted most of her customers came from particular areas of her country so she targeted her most recent ad to people in those areas, within a certain age bracket. She reported a lot more success this way than than a previous attempt where she had only limited the ad by country and age.

    Hi Richard ,

Its good to know that its working for you because not many user get the benefit of getting the target audience from facebook but I agree to the point that it is much cheaper as compare to Google Adword or Google Affiliated.

If you don’t mind Richard can you please tell me the bounce rate of your website because in most of the case as per my research the bounce rate become very high when anyone do this kind of marketing.

In would also suggest you to try SEO as this would help you to get organci ranking which in turns give good visitors and customers since we get teh filtered traffic.

    Thanks
    Nikhil

    Hi Nikhil,

My bounce rate is around 60%. As the site (and business) is only a few months old I dont know if it will stabilise at that (I hope not). I understand that under 30% is optimal.

I have not had any calls resulting from the hits and have paused the ads for now, as I will shortly be posting some ebooks for sale online and will point the ads in that direction. This will allow me to track conversion as opposed to simply just hits.

My SEO and organic ranking is pretty good so far.

    Cheers

    Richard

    Great post by the way.

Yes there are recent stats being provided that show the demographic of 50 – 65 are the largest group getting online, versus say teenage children. Which is an amazing stat in its own right.

Not to promote my business at all, however I did post an article, short as it is linking to the original sources. http://www.frankstonkisit.com/blog/57-rise-of-the-silver-surfer.html

With Facebook ads, you need to really say what you are offering in your ad and equally understand competitors could quite easily be going to the link. So getting smart about what you put as an ad is my strongest point.

Congrats on the results for the Facebooks ads too!

    Cheers,
    Glenn
