    Hello all

I just started my fashion business on a small scale and I am wondering how important is PR for a growing independent fashion label?

If it is, then what are the costs like and how to choose the right PR for the label?

    Would appreciate your help !

    Cheers

Yes publicity is very important for any business, and maintaining an image is even more important in the fashion industry.

Some PR you could do yourself, such as setting up a launch event, and promoting it to the press. You could use Newsmaker or some other release website to promote your events/catalogue.

If you are looking at launching a new line seriously, then I would highly recommend hiring a professional PR manager, even for a short contract.

The real value in any fashion label is in the brand. So building it right is important. If you have the money I’d invest in a PR company otherwise the other long hard route is to try and make the connections to the right people yourself. If you do social media right you may get some free press.

To get some great PR you can also use websites like http://www.sourcebottle.com.au this is a site where journalists and publishers put requests for information and if you just keep an eye out theres some great opportunities :)

    All the best!

Thank you all for your advise.

I do get emails from http://www.sourcebottle.com.au everyday and they are quite beneficial.

I would love to have a PR manager but I have enquired at a few PR agencies and their pricing seems to be fairly high for me as I am just starting my business.

I shall keep an eye out on http://www.newsmaker.com.au as well.

    Thanks peeps.

    Hi D,

You may find that a soloist PR specialist is able to offer some services that are more in line with your budget, so it’s worth taking a look through the PR consultants section of the Flying Solo Directory.

These articles on DIY PR from our regular contributor Phil Lowe would also be useful for you to read.

    Good luck with it all,
    Jayne
