Hi, sure am glad to have found this place.
I am a presenter/trainer/coach (of teachers) for a Department of Education. My focus and expertise is ICT innovation and integration into schools and classrooms, such as social media and skills based training.
I have had a crack at business 3 times already, twice as a trainer in education, and the education gigs went well. I learned so much, had my share of success and made mistakes that I have learned from.
This time I am writing a business plan (I blush at the thought of the way i ‘winged it’ in earlier attempts at running businesses), and have set up much of the online presence. I will take the plunge early in 2013, but more on that in another thread.I am looking for guidance generally, and in my field, and look forward to learning from, and contributing to the great conversations that are ‘Flying Solo’.

Best of luck with it. Good to see you are intending to have a go writing a business plan, too. There’s plenty of help out there if need assistance or have any questions, so don’t be shy about asking!
August 19, 2012 at 2:55 pm #1112765Up::0Hi Wickstim
I failed at my first attempt, and returned to employment after 2 years. This time round I have still made mistakes (including going into a partnership which ended badly and left my reputation mildly tarnished
) and earlier this year I contemplated a return to employment. It was mid interview that I suddenly realised that employment was not what I really wanted. I just needed to take control of my business and not let it control me.
Since then, I have been able to dig deep within and determine EXACTLY how I want my business to run. I have become EXTREMELY organised, reassessed my systems and put better ones in place and taken control. I have never been more motivated. I have been reading many books on small business.
I am convinced that it was the planning that I put into place earlier this year that has made all of the difference. I had my tasks all set out, which enabled me to go about putting them in place.
Good luck with your fourth ‘crack’! If you need any numbers help, feel free to get in touch
