    Hi,

I am placing an advert in the local paper for the next 13 weeks. My primary business focus is providing MYOB training, however I have found when I arrive at a clients place, I spend a lot of time actually explaining the fundamentals of accounting, what their balance sheet is telling them, what their profit and loss is telling them.

e.g. I have one client a CEO of a massive company who gets me in every month, we pull of the exact same report – the job report – and I explain what the numbers mean.

Succinct is not my strong point. Do you have any suggestions for a catchy phrase in fewer than 12 words that describes how my services can benefit a business?

Here are some I came up with, but the ad placer said he thought they were weak.

Invest in your staff – invest in MYOB training

Invest in yourself – invest in MYOB training

Learn how to read your profit & loss statement – we specialise in MYOB & accounting education.

Learn how to read your balance sheet– we specialise in MYOB & accounting education.

Thank-you for coming by & reading this,

    Heather

    Hi Heather

I am very familiar with your scenario and words like invest will not work in my humble opinion. My spontaneous reaction is to go for the “fear” factor ….

Here’s what my friend Anna Carrabs, tax partner at the second tier accounting firm William Buck, currently thinks…. “The ATO is coming … Are you ready? …It goes without saying that with the current economic downturn there will be increased pressure on tax collections within Australia. This is already reflected in the 2008-09 Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) Compliance Program which indicates an increased level of ATO audits and reviews.”

In addition you have to keep steessing … what you can measure you can manage

happy to talk more about this topic which is very dear to my heart but have to go now as I have two great danes (dogs) pressing me for their dinner

    Warren,

Thank-you so much for taking the time to respond.

I will think about what you have said.

I just got a puppy for the kids, so I know where you are coming from…

I also got a puppy for the boyfriend and the darling thing is driving me to distraction … :)

I would go with something that really expresses the benefits of what you do …
I’m not excited by learning how to read my P&L – unless I find out that what that REALLY means is how many $$$ I have in the bank at the end of the day.

These might be a bit over the top for you, but ideas anyway …

oDay umbersnay allway ooklay ikelay atinLay otay ouyay? Let us put your numbers into plain English.

How I learned to stop hating numbers and to love my p&l sheet.

Do you LOVE accounting? LIAR! But we do …

Watch us demystify your p&l sheet, transform your cashflow projections and help you explode your profits in 2009!

Do you speak numbers? We do! Let one of our number translators tell you what your p&l sheets are REALLY saying …

    What about something like:
Want to make more money? We can help – then something about how understanding your P&L and other reports can help a business make more money. Or something like that.

Lol, maybe it’s because she met you first and now thinks your Mum, or maybe it’s your magic personality, or maybe you keep a snack in that left pocket and the puppy can sniff it out a mile away. Maybe you feed the puppy it’s dinner…

I think it’s because I’m the disciplinarian. I have no mercy. I will ignore her. I will be firm with her. When she whines he’s all like … sleep in our bed. And I’m like … no .. that’s why she has a basket.

She respects me, I think – sees him as a littermate and me as mum.

    THREAD HIJACK ALERT!!!

Sorry … I’ve turned into one of those women who can talk about nothing but her puppy … ;-)

    Hi again Heather

I think you have to forget P&Ls, Balance Sheets and for that matter even your services.

The big question is… what perceived benefit by your clients will they react to?

The only things that rattled out of my head today were:

    Make More Money With MYOB

The Secret to Making More Money with MYOB
