I have thought of an idea that is a device that would be linked to a smart phone. The problem is I’m not at all technically minded so need massive help on developing the idea as all I have literally is the idea.

I’m just wondering if anyone could help or point me in the direction of someone that could help me

Without giving away your idea I think if you could provide a bit more information you would get much better help! :)

    Hello blighty,

Check out Commercialisation Australia, they would have resources to evaluate and help. You might also want to check out IP Australia to see if there isn’t already something similar. Don’t share the idea with anyone unless you have at least a NDA signed because the best ideas are often stolen.

    Good luck!

I think you need to do three things.

    1. go to a CAD modeler and ask them to draw a design of your device and point out the features of it.

    2. Get it patented

and 3. if it all works out and the idea is good, you can get the product manufactured with the CAD design.

    good luck

Hi Blighty, why not check out these guys:

    *Invent Help

Even if they can’t directly help you they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Best of luck with your new product idea!

    Hi there,

Also check out Innovic, who are a not for profit organisation set up to help inventors and innovators – some great resources there (including a template for NDA/Confidentiality agreement); seminars and ‘flow charts’ that help figure out the steps to get your ‘idea’ through to a commercially viable product etc.

From the patent perspective (this is for information purposes only and is not legal advice) – Australia has a provisional patent, which can be filed to basically get your name and invention details in the system and given a priority date so that there’s a record that as of X date you had invented X product/device etc. (See the IP Australia link in yourvirtualboards’ earlier post); having this filed will help ensure that you are ‘safe’ to contact others to have them assist in design and engineering of your device etc. As you will read at the IP Australia website, it’s strongly recommended that you seek the advice of patent attorneys rather than file your own patent applications.

    Good Luck!

You could google freelancers online such as elance.com – you can find tips for drawing up contracts to get products delivered, signing of non-disclosure agreements, etc
