My name is Ainslie and I’m a web designer dealing mostly in sites built with the open source CMS Drupal.
For the past few years I’ve been doing work for Australian skin care brand Bellaboo’s website, as well as nutritionist and author Karen Fischer’s two websites. I also did some work for the now defunct website whatagirlneeds.com.au.
At the moment I’m starting on a new venture called Project Bloom @ http://www.projectbloomweb.com, which is basically me spreading the word about my services as well as a few “packaged” website plans.
I’ve found that in the past potential clients have been turned off by the whole website quote process or don’t really understand what goes into creating a website, so I thought that offering some packaged plans with upfront pricing + detailed lists of what each package contains would be a good idea.
As I’m trying to expand and build a client list and hopefully turn this into more of a full time deal, I’m offering some discounted packages to get things started.
Even if you don’t need a new website, or have a site built on a platform other than Drupal, and you need someone to do the occasional or regular updates for you at reasonable rates, please feel free to contact me as I’m always open to new offers.
I’m passionate about helping small businesses get online, and love working with Drupal… even though the complexity and the fact that it is *so* customisable can be overwhelming at times!
I’d describe my design aesthetic as somewhat “girly” and I do love a bit of colour, but I’m capable of more muted designs as well. Actually, I’m thinking of making a few colour changes to projectbloomweb.com to reflect that.
Looking forward to “blooming” and exploring more of the Flying Solo site, which so far seems like an awesome resource! Thanks for reading.

Michael.

I wish you all the best
Thanks for the website feedback Webfunk! Good to hear that it’s not too busy-looking.
I struggled when creating it as to whether to go for a more “businessy” look or just follow my gut and do something that appeals to the kinds of clients who generally contact me.
Your website is great as well. Really easy to navigate, and the little arrows + cursive text add a nice touch. Good luck with your work as well.
September 3, 2011 at 4:06 am #1071420Up::0Hi Ainslie – Welcome to Flying Solo! Great fresh-looking website – well done! Hope you get on the road to full time work with the web designing soon – its a wonderful thing being more in control of what you do and how you do it
Of course, there are lots of people here on the forum that can give you pointers on most aspects of having and running your own business. My pointer would be to protect your name/brand, especially now you are out in the public arena. Happy to help you if you need. Cheers, Suzanne
September 5, 2011 at 2:05 am #1071421Up::0Hi Ainslie,
Welcome to the forums
Must say, I agree with everyone else’s sentiments – Great looking website!
I work with a number of web designers to help them promote their business (as a printer, not a marketer) so get quite involved in their campaigns. One thing I have found with the majority of them is that if their marketing always leads to greater results when targeted at those who don’t already have a website, seems to be an easier to sell as the majority of people in online spaces already have a web presence.
Hope that helps

It is a great looking site Ainslie – well done and best wishes.
Cheers, Ned
P.S. Note to self – I have to stop myself agreeing with everything that Jake says.
