Hi, I need some assistance in my studio (sorting invoices, excel work, minor research, admin, wordpress updates, archiving) and am wondering what people pay. I

would get a local high school student or uni student, or maybe someone via Airtasker. As they won’t be billing me, I cannot claim that as expenses, so I wonder what do people pay their helpers?

I’m not sure if I understand correctly, but if you are paying someone in a way that means you cannot claim the cost as an expense, you are breaking the law.

If you are doing it legitimately, than the price you pay may change depending on whether they are a casual, part time or full time employee, or a contractor.

To echo Blue Penguin, students must be paid fairly. As an employer you must also register with the ATO and put the necessary procedures, insurances and more in place. See more here https://www.ato.gov.au/business/employers/preparing-to-engage-workers/

As of 1 July 2014 the current minimum hourly rate is $16.87.

    Also, Fairwork Australia http://www.fairwork.gov.au
