    Hi there everyone.
Long time lurker but new poster.

I’m looking to get into a business, which is probably quite unfamiliar to most. However, I’m sure other people would have marketing ideas or have some experience in similar niches.

We are a manufacturer and would like to supply bulk to customers. Basically, my target market will be pretty high profile people. As we’re the manufacturer, we will not be selling to the general public. Our customers will pretty much have to be at least millionaires. The product is pretty much tobacco.

The problem with this is, I have no idea how to find buyers.

In general, I’ve read a lot about internet marketing etc. And you know, selling website development etc. I’ve also worked in sales with cold calling however this is a different game altogether.

We are looking for customers around the world. Australia is pretty strict with these things so we are looking at Asia, the Middle East and Africa. We already have customers however we would like to expand.

    – Would my best bet be contacting local sourcing agents in various countries?
    – Or perhaps going to large shows/conventions as a business, with advertisements at the stall?

I have no problem travelling around to different countries. It’s necessary to any way when we are dealing with this type of business. So I’m happy to hear any ideas even if they include meeting face to face in other countries.

Since it’s going to be hard to find my would-be clients and because this is a very small target market in which most people can’t afford, it’s probably not worth the time to set up a website with SEO to generate leads. There aren’t many searches with the keywords I would type in myself if I were looking for a manufacturer as ourselves. So I pretty much ruled that out.

Are there any ‘networks’, or anything I should know about?
Please note I am quite young and I don’t have any experience in this field find extremely high profile clients. I’m open to any ideas so any comments are appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi vision025,
Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting.
This is not something I’ve had experience in but I’m sure a few of the other members have. As burgo mentioned we may need some more specific information.
It would be great to fill out your profile too in the control panel to let us know a little more about you.
    All the best
    Peter

    Hello vision025,

If I was to start a niche business in bulk tobacco supply to millionaires I’d be focusing my advertising efforts in the high rollers lounge at casinos.

I would also offer some incentive for referrals to your current customers like a golf match with tiger woods or something similar.

Donald Trump is a huge pro smoking advocate, get him on board to help promote your tobacco to the other multi millionaires.

    Hope this helps.

    Steve

Hi everyone, appreciate the replies. We are a cigarette manufacturer. Basically if you want your own brand of cigarettes, you will come to us.

Sorry I wasn’t that clear because I’m not sure if ‘tobacco related products’ are allowed on the forums like on alibaba.
So yeah, unfortunately tobacco products are inviolation to alibaba rules which makes things quite difficult.
The only way to list a product would be “empty cigarettes” or similar and hope these guys would also like to create their own cigarette brand too. Long shot though heh

So although I say clients, it is more so b2b as we are the manufacturers, and by clients I would mean businesses/high profile people. These guys will have to have some power in other countries as tobacco laws are pretty strict, especially when importing and selling your own brand, you’ve got to know the rules. That’s why I didn’t lost china is a little hard because one of my mates who is from there says that all cigarette selling is regulated there so you can’t bring in your own.
The way we got customers atm is because we are quite connected overseas with politics such, but atm I’m just trying to get other ideas an strategies in which I can implement myself.

Steve, quite the vision I see :P
It would be awesome if I could get in touch with someone like THAT haha. I would also need a very good sales pitch because I’m sure he would’ve had a thought of tobacco business himself before. Being that high profile I assume he would have contacts already.
Anyhow, yes these rich people. Just wondering what would be the best way. I know it’s a pretty long shot but I mean any ideas I can throw in to my family would help a lot because we are just using word of mouth at the moment but like I said, luckily we are pretty high profile overseas.
Referals would be fine, the reason I said sourcing agent in the OP, is because they would get commission for introducing us. That would be to people to (if they had the contacts!)

In regards to telemarketing, I don’t think it’d really be worthwhile. Normal people will not be able to afford this.
We ate manufacturers so our clients must purchase in bulk. And we’re not talking about 10 cartons a month. More like at least 10,000 haha.
A very select few kind of people would have the money or want to create and distribute their own brands of cigarettes heh
But in all, we just manufacture. We won’t advertise. That’s up to our client. I’m just trying to find people to manufacture for :)

For manufacturing, you need to use B2B websites to Promote your products. And have a proper website as well if you are going to create accounts there.

If I were you I’d spend money on a PR push that the people up there will take notice of.

Tobacco is a hard topic though because the general consensus is that people think it is damaging to the bodies so it will never become quite mainstream. Try going on LinkedIn and approaching a few people :).

Otherwise may be worth getting into some high profile business networking events :)
