I am new here & already loving the flying solo community.

I want to share with you my business idea/dream but I’m in need of some advice relating to start up.

So I am looking at opening a clothing store in our town, men’s & womenswear.
I have been a manager in this industry before having children & I am also a buyer & merchandiser as well.
My challenge is starting up – I know how to run a business on a day to day basis, I have all the contacts to get the right stock & I have all the other know how of making my store work now the silly part is I don’t know how to get from right now to doors open!
I often say if someone handed me a shop & said here’s the keys it’s all yours I could make it work but like I said I just don’t know what I need to do to make the doors open…

Looking for any Advice or information
    Thank you

    Hi there,

To help you focus on the essential elements, close your eyes and visualise opening that door on day 1, and then your first customer entering and buying something. What are the things you’d need at a bare mimimum? I use this process to put together a checklist of things to organise/buy with an essentials list and a “nice to have” list, and a “one day” so it doesn’t seem so overwhelming.

-What do you need to open the door? Premises, permits, insurance?
-How will people know to enter? Signage?
-How will they browse the clothes? Shelves, racks?
-Will they try them on? Where?
-How will they pay? POS, bank account, card reader?

Hope that helps to get you started. :)

This is something everyone faces when starting up.

    Few things to consider

Have you got a ABN or ACN with ATO? Decide business structure
    Decide on the premises?
    Setup accounts with suppliers?
Decide on what stock to carry and display arrangements.

Answer these questions then we can have more discussion.
