    Hi guys,

I couldn’t wait any longer. I’ve signed up with Twitter today.
I guess it would have made more sense to wait until I’m launching but I was too curious to wait.

Now, how does it work? I’ve tried to send a message to someone but I have no idea if it worked.

And, wow … Just noticed I already have 3 followers. OMG!!!

Next question, I’ve been trying for hours to put up my BIO but it gives me a “forbidden” error message. Is it too long maybe? Are there any restrictions?

And I just tried to send a Direct Message and I get the forbidden error again. Any ideas why?

    Thank you in advance!

    Regards,
    Mel

    Welcome to the twittersphere,

Here are two posts (same author) which offer the best explanation I’ve seen about not only the mechanics of twitter, but also how to make it useful…
    http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToTwitterFirstStepsAndATwitterGlossary.aspx

Remember though that twitter is less about sending messages to a particular person, but rather about sending messages to the world. In fact it’s very restrictive about who you can send messages directly to (they have to follow you).

    Hi Elsee,

    Thanks a lot for that!

I have figured that my BIO was probably too long and my first tweet actually did show after a while.

Thanks again, will check those links out right away!

    Regards,
    Mel

Don’t forget to add your Twitter profile (and other social media profiles) to your Flying Solo account so people can follow you from here :)

Can I just add a little endorsement for Bridie. She would probably cringe at the term but I must say she is an absolute GURU on Twitter! I have used some of her tips to very good effect:)

There’s a great tool I’m using at the moment that suggests when I should tweet and allows me to schedule them. It also provides reminders for actions I haven’t taken (e.g. I forget to reply someone). I highly recommend you try it out, it’s free.

You can get a free account at:
    http://www.crowdbooster.com

Its free for one twitter account and one facebook page.
