I am planning to import complimentary medicines(Homeopathy Medicines) from India.
Can anybody please give me some inputs if the Australian Customs have Restriction or any permissions on Importing Complimentary Medicines.
I am not getting correct information of what need to be done to import them & the customs clearance procedures.
I will be waiting for your suggestions & Advices.
Thanks,

It will depend on what are the components of your products. If your products contain biological components such as herbs, then I would imagine that you will require a permit to import these items.
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service’s website may be able to assist you in this regard:

“Importing therapeutic goods
Most products for which therapeutic claims are made must be listed or registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) before they can be supplied in Australia.”Here is a link to the Regulation Basics page on the TGA website.

HI Princy, if you search on COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINES you will find more information like these ones:
http://australia.gov.au/topics/health-and-safety/medicine-and-health-products
http://www.anztpa.org/cm/permitted.htm
http://www.tga.gov.au/safety/alerts-medicine-ayurvedic-050427.htmThe spelling makes a difference.
Complimentary means free gift, or saying something nice about someone.
Complementary means goes together with.
In your case, you need Complementary MedicinesCheers.

Up::0Hi Princy,
As others have mentioned, you need to check this with the TGA before going any further. Their website is big and complex, so I would suggest starting here for copies of the relevant legislation and guidelines:
http://www.tga.gov.au/industry/cm.htmThe rules may be different depending whether you’re looking to import for your own use in your new clinic (e.g. importing pillules for dispensing in liquid that you make up yourself specifically for individual clients), or whether you’re planning to sell the finished goods either wholesale or retail (e.g. importing packaged products and selling them to multiple people).
Either way, you need to review the advice on the TGA’s website and then talk to someone there who can talk to you about your specific plans.
Good luck,

I am impressed by Karen’s post. I saw the spelling mistake, figured that would be making it hard to find info, couldn’t think of a tactful way to say that, so I decided to post the regulations link instead. Love your work Karen.
