    Hi,
I am thinking of bringing in clothes and accessories from Bali. I am wondering what is the best way to do so? My main concerns are, can I travel to Bali and bring items back to Australia with me or do I have to have the goods shipped over for the minimum cost?
In addition to this what is the minimum cost I can bring in goods without paying GST or taxes?

    Hi there,

Welcome to the forums! We do have some knowledgeable importers on this forum, so hopefully someone can give you some advice on this topic.

We generally find that people get the best responses when they include their name – people love helping other individuals!

Good luck with the importing and hope to see you around.

    Hi Bellamia,

There are lots of different ways to do this – from my own experience bringing back items when travelling is fine for small samples, but commercial quantities will get you pulled up at Customs,

You can checkout http://www.business.gov.au/BusinessTopics/Importingandexporting/Importing/Pages/default.aspx for Government requirements.

Imports under AUD$1,000 currently attract no GST or duties.

Good luck, reach out to me if you want some transport quotes, international or dometic.

Hi Bellamia, $1000 is the limit to avoid GST. It pays to hook up with an importer to start with. They know all the ropes, have all the best contacts and will ensure you get your goods. I know of people that import themselves and have lost their shipment. Although more expensive to go through an importer, you are better offer in the start up stage until you get up and running.
