Hi Chriso,
You are not wrong – I have been back in the insurance game for about 15 years and the way each company goes about things slightly differently does my head in! I can only wonder what it does to the poor man (or woman) in the street!!
Realistically, what you have described probably won’t be adequately covered under an insurers standard policy wording. Although most insurers will cover tyre fitters, the devil will be in the detail… the standard insurance policy doesn’t cover the following:
– Customers Vehicles in your Physical or Legal Control
– Test Driving of Customers Vehicles (either damaging their vehicle or someone elses property);
– Rectification of Faulty Workmanship.
And to be honest even if you ask about these covers being in the policy, the person in the call centre will probably say ‘let me talk to my supervisor’ or ‘you need to refer to the PDS’ – you generally won’t get a straight answer because they don’t know how to correctly structure the cover for you….
The good news – insurers have created specialised ‘Motor Trades’ policies which can help you cover the items you have mentioned, plus things you probably haven’t thought about (like the above). Due to the type of policies, these are usually left to insurance brokers to handle (the insurers generally don’t offer them to the public direct).
If you contact your local insurance broker, they should be able to help you out. Alternatively, give me a call and I can have a chat to you about your new venture and make some suggestions.
Best of Luck with it all!
Regards,
Mark
