    Hello everybody,
I’m glad to find this Australia forum for small business. My name is Yonas in Perth, at the moment I’m working for Burswood casino as EGaming attendant. My whole like I’ve been working in customer service areas, the casino allows me to meet lots of people from different background levels.

One thing I must do before I die is running a proper business, I mean when I was still in uni I was doing business selling gaming mousepad and eventually Carebears on Ebay for 6 years but the procedure running it was quite basic, it didn’t involve having to register ABN or even need an accountant.

I do have many questions about doing business, that’s why I’m very pleased to find this forum with like-minded people.

Maybe I start with this question. I am thinking to start a franchise business with reason being giving me chance learning about running a business. Will my idea about getting a franchise do me any good? Or there’re other better alternative about learning and running a business?

Personally, I’m not too big a fan of franchises, it could just be my industry however. I currently am in the printing industry and used to working in a printing franchise.

Generally, the costs to get things printed in a franchise are much higher. This is due to the increased overheads, with royalty fees and the like. This tends to deter customers.

They are however helpful if you haven’t run a business before and want an “out of the box solution”.

What industry were you looking at entering?

Mmm… good question =) I’m thinking of business providing service and/or facilities. I’m interested in places like gym.

In term of franchise I like the idea of Jetz a 24/7 gym, it has its own niche just being 24/7. Of course not everybody needs 24/7 but by being available it fits more people especially ppl working on shift. My friend also said it’s not good to workout during midnight, but I think doing exercise at anytime is still better than not doing exercise at all.

The other areas I’m thinking of is Subway or Nandos.

If my close friends have business minds, it’ll be a good challenge to start or buy a non-franchise existing business. Unfortunately, they prefer working for people.

I don’t really know what business available out there. My scope is still small, knowing only deli, nandos, subway etc.

I’m not in rush, so I keep my eyes n heart open when I see an opportunity.
