Up::0Hi There,
I am just wondering if anybody has a free Invoice Template that they would love to share with me.
I am only after a very simple template, for myself to send out invoices for my commission earnings. It does not need to be colourful, just black print will be fine.
Thank you in advanceKind Regards
KimSeptember 16, 2013 at 10:38 am #1150495Up::0Hi Kym, there are a lot of good templates in Microsoft Documents. Type in Microsoft documents into google and see what you find.

User friendly and you get notified when it’s received.
Hope that helps.

NCS have invoice software you can download for free at http://www.nchsoftware.com/invoice/index.html (just make sure you click on the link for the free version, not the paid version). You can easily customise the template and the advantage is you can also use the software to receipt payments. This means you can run reports on unpaid invoices, send email reminders etc. Much quicker and easier to manager than a manual template. I’ve used it for invoicing for several of my clients and they all love it. Cheers Gail

Up::0Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for all of your posts and invoice help.
I have searched through G but some of the templates i found i am not sure about so i thought i would ask here as i am sure plenty of you have used them and know which ones work the best.I will have a look at that one that you put up Gail @ VAABS, thanks for that. I actually might need to chat to you about Bookkeeping as well, so i might take you up on the offer of the free 30 minute consultation. I will let you know when i am ready for that.
OMG there is so much to learn, i am completely running blind at the moment in regards to the actual starting of the business part, but i am so thankful that i can come here to Flying Solo and look around and ask questions. I love FS.

You’re welcome Kim,
Even though you are just starting your business, do make sure you record everything you spend in getting the business up and running. Even if you just keep receipts for everything you spend (or records of online payments, or a diary), it will all help when it comes to setting up your bookkeeping and tax time. You don’t want to miss any opportunity for a tax deduction or depreciation – lol.
If you’d like to chat, just let me know. It’s always much easier to set up your bookkeeping from the beginning rather than back-tracking when tax time arrives. With all the tools available now, it’s not difficult (or expensive) to get you up and running with something you can maintain yourself (if you prefer). Cheers. Gail
September 16, 2013 at 11:40 pm #1150501Up::0Rather than trying to do everything manually using Microsoft Office etc why not look at some actual accounting software?
For a free cloud hosted solution look at Wave Accounting, they’ve got great built in templates and can connect to your Internet Banking to pull all of your records and help reconcile business v personal costs etc.
Next one up is FreshBooks which will set you back US$20/month and has PayPal payments built in to your invoices.
The cream of the crop is Xero which is an NZ based company and has PayPal + eWAY built in. If you’re doing more than 5 invoices or payments a month you’ll need to pay $45/month for it though.
I’d suggest starting with Wave though so that you can get used to running the financial side of a business.
Good luck with it!

Agree entirely, Maclean,
Way better to start up a bookkeeping system from the beginning with suitable accounting software – so much available these days and so easy to use. It will saves heaps of time and stress.
Xero is definitely top of the range but cost can be a bit prohibitive for soloists and SME’s.
Wave is a great free option.
MYOB Live Accounts is also a good option with bank account feeds and cheaper than xero at $29 per month.
Have not used Freshbooks – seems more popular in the US than here in Oz – not sure how it handles GST if you are registered.
All the best.
Cheers

GailThanks for the tip on MYOB Live Accounts, I’d not tried that before so I’ll give it a trial. I’d always been ‘scared’ of the MYOB range after a failed dip in to their product range a few years ago (admittedly it was my first look in to small business accounting so was well out of my depth! The accounts team at eWAY have used MYOB for the last 13 years though)
We have lots of eWAY merchants using Freshbooks , they became serious about the Australia market about three years ago, GST/invoice requirements are easily setup.

Thanks for the update on Freshbooks in Oz and GST – great to know. Always on the lookout for the most suitable product for individual clients. I’ll have another look at Freshbooks.
I have used PC-based MYOB for my business for over 10 years and it’s ever reliable. MYOB Live Accounts is great to set up for my clients with shared access in the cloud. It is a little slower than the PC based version and not quite as flexible but ideal for soloists and SME’s who just need basic invoicing and bookkeeping and something easy to use and quick to process transactions with bank feeds.
With available software these days, there really is no reason for tax time headaches with receipts in shoeboxes – lol.
Cheers

Up::0Thank you Janye, Gail, Maclean and everyone, i knew i would get a response for this question but i did not think it would be so in depth. The people on this site are just so friendly and helpful. I am more confused than ever now though LOL, heaps of reading to do for me.
September 17, 2013 at 3:39 am #1150507September 17, 2013 at 3:44 am #1150508Up::0I use Freshbooks. I did switch to Xero for a couple of months, but found it didn’t do what I wanted, so switched back and continue to use my Excel sheets for bookkeeping.
You can use Freshbooks for free up to a limited number of clients, then they have different tiers of subscription depending on how many clients you have.
