    Hi all

Long story short I have (and am) wasting a lot of money on trying to get my volusion site up and running with an Odesk web developer. I was trying to cut corners to get it done quick and cheap and its turning out long, expensive and ugly.

I have money coming in about 4-6 weeks, but need the website done yesterday. Its a big stress :(

I literally have no budget left for the website right now and want to give this Odesk wally the boot!

Is anyone willing to do the website and I will pay you in a maximum of 8 weeks (2 weeks incase my money is late landing in my account). It could be much earlier (for payment).

I need someone who can take my logo and from that as the colour pallette make a simple attractive volusion home page, product pages, checkout page etc. The basics I need to get trading so I don’t miss christmas trade.

Argh. Mistakes are fine but this one is stressing me big time.

If asking for this is inappropriate – let me know and please accept my apologies.

    Angela.

Happy to discuss if you want to send me a PM or email, depending on the requirements, what scope you have so far etc. Feel free to browse my site which I project managed the design and development of through WordPress.

Thanks Dan I am just going to walk off my frustrations for awhile :) I am considering swapping to shopify. Volusion is too stressful.

Angela – although I do small websites, I have a couple of clients who changed happily to Shopify. Worth considering. They were not tech people and they have found it good for them and their shop works well.

    Hi Angela

    Hi from Perth!

I would recommend you don’t head down the same path you have just found yourself down ‘cutting corners’ etc.

Just get yourself a free wordpress site — a DIY – and simply use it as a way to collect email addresses for now. Then use email as your method of communication. Do this until you have enough money to do a good job with your website.

Your website is never perfect, and never finished, but you don’t have to rush it.

If you want to see how to set up a simple WordPress blog (which so many of us are using these days), here is a handy link… http://socialtriggers.com/bluehost-wordpress-bloghosting/

Meantime, focus on building your email list with your direct market events, and with your facebook page. This is what will grow your business long term.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your replies.

Dan I did reply to your inbox but not sure if you got it as my sent folder is empty (not sure if I have it set to delete sent items – head is so full of everything else right now).

KarenC thanks. While I was still very stressy, I started a shopify account, chose a free template that is perfectly OK as it is for now without even changing a colour etc, put up my logo, made a crappy banner with picmonkey that I could easily improve, put up my first product and created my first category. It took less than half an hour from sign up to having a store I could almost launch with (after doing about-us etc).

Jenny do you still recommend having a wordpress site if I also have a shopify cart? I haven’t looked into shopify much yet (yes it was an impulse decision). So not sure whether to make shopify a part of a larger site with more functionality, or stick to just shopify.

I am SO annoyed with myself. (and relieved to have found a solution).

I ended the Odesk job and completely cancelled my volusion account.

I WISH I had gone with a starter package from one of the website designers here on FS, or local to my area and built from there.

Thanks Matthew I will try to have a chat with you tomorrow.

A wordpress front end, including blog with a shopify backend (for ecommerce) is a neat solution. It is easily customizable by yourself.

I don’t recommend you doing all the design and development yourself. This is something worth outsourcing, and paying someone else to do. You don’t have to start big, but just choose a platform (like these ones) that are scaleable as you do build your business.

Why shouldn’t you do it yourself?

Your main function in business is to generate revenue. Without that, all the rest is a moot point.

I don’t think you need a separate blog.

According to the Shopify docs, there’s already a module for adding a blog built in.

I really appreciate all the help :)

Shopify does have unlimited blogs built in. I can create pages for contact forms, about-us, etc (static content pages) too. I don’t think I need wordpress too at this stage.

It has everything I need to get started. No its not everything I WANT, but that is going to have to wait a year I think.

And it generates editable terms and conditions, privacy and returns policies (bonus).

OK off I go to start again with this website stuff -.-
