    Hi Everyone,

I have just started my own small business as a sole trader, based in Sydney. In a nutshell, I am receiving weekly custom made jewellery orders from a major Australian jewellery chain store, getting them made offshore, then delivering to my client. I need to generate individual invoices for each piece of jewellery, at this stage approximately 70 pieces. This is a home based business.

I require a Mac friendly accountancy package/program and have no idea where to go. I would appreciate if anybody out there could suggest a program that is suitable for my line of business. Or even a company that specialises in setting up accounting systems for small businesses in the jewellery and/or importing industry.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Jewellery Lover

    Hi

There’s plenty of accountants and bookkeepers here that might tell you otherwise, but I dont think you can go past MYOB. Ive been using it since it was concieved.

I haven’t come across too many people running accounting software on a Mac. Even my graphic designer clients who use Macs heavily, use either Quickbooks or MYOB.

I have a Macbook air, but have installed VMware so that I can run Windows, and run MYOB, QB and my tax software.

I have a client that uses this software for billing, which is specifically for a Mac:

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for your quick response. Could you recommend a specific MYOB program/package which can deal with lots of individual inventory for wholesale invoices?

    Thank you,
    Jewellery Lover

    Hi

I have a few clients who use MYOB Account Edge which is the Mac version of MYOB – it will track inventory for you which it sounds like you would need? There are other software packages as mentioned but it is always worth bearing in mind that with MYOB you will never have a problem finding a bookkeeper or accountant who knows how to use it, whereas with the others you probably will.

If you decide to go ahead with MYOB let me know as I can get a discount on their products.

PS – I used to work in the jewellery industry for many years – it was a lot of fun!

    Hi

Agree with what was said by the above members.

Another option is Saasuhttp://www.saasu.com/ it is an on line system very cost effective as if you are only invoicing to the one client you may be able to sign up for the free version

It covers all that you require now aswell as when you become a large distributor servicing the world.

Feel free to give me a buzz if you wish, we are part a professional partner of Saasu

The beauty of Saasu is that it feeds live exchange rates, which would be great given your supplier is overseas

    Best of luck with it

Make sure you read this small business accounting software buying guide before you commit to any system:

2 problems with MYOB which stopped me from using it.

    1. Price
    2. Complexity, requiring 2-4x purchase price for training…

+1 for MYOB or Quickbooks although it doesn’t sound like you need a full blown accounting package to handle a few invoices a week. There are subscription type systems out there or a bookkeeper could handle it all for you.
