Quite a few months back, I conducted an experiment here at FS on whether there was a good Australian marketplace for buying and selling websites. The answers I received confirmed my belief that there was no local competitor to the major competition, especially when it came to finding valuable .com.au domains.
Over the next 6-8 months I did some research and began building a quality website that would be 100% for the Australian market. I have finally finished my site and I am in need of help from the FS community to get me off the ground. I have begun campaigns on Facebook, Adwords and other sites to receive traffic but I still need more websites listed. If you own an established Australian online business or even just a website that has been sitting on your host, please feel free to list it on http://www.flipps.com.au
All the help and support would be immensely appreciated. Due to being on a small business forum and knowing all too well the difficulties of a business launch, I am sure a lot of you would know how hard it is to start a new business.
So if you could either list your own website or spread the word to people who may be interested, I would very much appreciate the helping hand – with ‘thanks’

Few things..
Did you know there is a site similar to yours?
http://www.flippa.com Australian owned and resources are huge, same owners of 99 designs.
I think there’s a guy on gum tree who’s still trying to sell his site that allows you to buy and sell websites also. Can’t remember the name though.
I have heard of people investing in domain names, hoping to catch the next wave of successful online businesses, with the hopeful entrepreneur paying good money for it. Imagine if you owned facebook.com?
Cheers,

I have a few idle domains and adsense websites.Yes, I had quite a few “adsense” and affiliate marketing websites which I managed to sell after the first “Panda” update, they were large sites, lots of articles, etc. and weren’t affected by that first round of updates. As I was heading a different direction with my online business I figured it was a good time to sell.
I sold a few on Flippa and made a fairly good return. The best was a large private sale which returned me 10x my monthly income for that site. All these sites are still going, and cared for which I’m happy to see as I no longer had time to keep up with them all.
I have found, in order to actually make money from sites, you need to have at least year or so of stats/earnings to show, you need a fair amount of traffic to your site, it needs to be ranking for keywords that are profitable one way or another (affiliates, online sales or Adsense) and though it really isn’t that important, people look for sites with higher PR.
Just setting up, ranking and flipping sites doesn’t seem to be that profitable to me.

Thank you!
Of course I was a buyer/ seller on Flippa for years but there is a lot of scams etc from international buyers which you are not protected from and the fees became outrageous. That is why I wanted a website marketplace which only caters towards an Australian audience so buyers are safer and the content is more relevant. Similar to how FS only allows sign-up to Australian IP’s.

I guess adequate profit can be defined differently by the individual but I make around $300 on my mid-range websites when I sold websites as a hobby.
Feel free to list your websites Steve, its free (free upgrades too)! You never know how much they are worth until you list.
February 21, 2013 at 6:48 am #1133648Up::0Its really great to see more websites being listed. I encourage those fellow Flying Soloist who are looking for an inexpensive/ local website marketplace to list their website accordingly. Also people who are looking to start a new business, there are many great websites continuing to be available.

Congrats on the website. It’s a great idea.
I’d love to know how you’re currently promoting the website? Do you have any affiliate relationships established?
It would be great if you could pre-populate the website further so it really beefs up the listings. My second business was a directory where people paid to list their business in their relevant category. To begin with I gave away a huge amount of free listings to leading businesses in their field to populate the site and entice their competitors to sign up and list their business.
Where are the people you are targeting in terms of who are they buying from? Are they going to seminars etc? If so contact workshop/seminar organisers and offer to give them a number of free listings that they can use as giveaways in return for promoting your website (logo on their website/event program, flyer in a gift bag, social media shout outs).
Hope that has given you some ideas.
Good luck!
