    Howdy All –

I’m after some advice. I’m in the process of developing a range of green cleaning products. I’ve been doing a bit of research on label printing, and I can’t find much in the way of information specifically on product label printing. Most Google searches return very general information regarding label printing, that doesn’t really go into materials, etc. And the prices seem very unlikely–$1-odd per label, even when printing ‘000’s; really!?

I’m wondering whether there is any one out there in Flying Solo land that has produced a product and has gone through this same process. And what tips or stories you may have?

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

We do offer custom label printing at very reasonable prices (much much less than a $1 a label). You won’t find this on our website but we have 20+ stock label/sticker stocks with many finishing options that we can offer you. I would be very happy to discuss your needs and come up with a great looking cost effective solution.

The only thing is that we are based in Taiwan and our products travel a long distance to make it to you in Australia. To be honest, printing with us is certainly not the most ecological way for you to print labels. As you are selling ecologically friendly cleaning product this may not jive with your brand. However airfreighting a couple thousand stickers isn’t going to be a huge carbon offset.

We would love to hear from you though. If you are interested feel free to PM me with your needs.

Perhaps search stickers rather than labels?

    Good luck :)

    Hi there,

I have a great company in WA printing my labels.

There is no minimum quantity but the more you order the cheaper it gets.

It’s The Label Factory, contact name Bruce
    bruce@thelabelfactory.com.au

Please let him know that Mel from Embalm Skincare has recommended him.

    Regards,
    Mel

There is often a big difference between stickers and labels. Same concept, but a label is more a generic term, can can refer to something even that isn’t sticky at all, like a label wrapped around some shampoo bottles.

To the origional poster – there could be a number of options, depending on WHAT you are putting the label on (packaging), and HOW you are applying it – ie by hand, vs various machines. Depending on your product and packaging you may not even need labels at all – in many cases the packaging can be printed directly by someone like http://www.acebottleprinter.com.au

With an eco friendly product you want to be as eco friendly with the packaging as possible too as it fits in with what your target market wants. If you could provide some more info on your exct product and packaging there may be some specific useful advice. Or, if it’s something that really just needs a sticky label, then thelabelfactory recommended by Mel may be a good choice.

    Hi Paul,

With these types of products your best bet is to talk to the printers for quoting as there would be many different options you could take that would affect the pricing. Things that would affect pricing would be volume, printing methods, formulation (which would affect the label stock and coatings) and packing methods (i.e. if you are hand labelling or running on a machine).
Most printers will be able to give you advice on this stuff pretty quickly and provide quotes quickly also. For runs in the 100’s to low 1000’s digital printing is probably your best bet. When you start getting past 10000 per run offset becomes more viable. I’ve found stick with us were good for short runs. $1 per label sounds steep from my experience but you will really notice price reductions with increasing run sizes so make sure you ask for qty breaks when getting quotes. Hope that helps, happy to give some more pointers if you need.

    Cheers,
    Scott
