    Dear friends,
My wife works in professional health settings, including hospitals as a Social Worker doing guided imagery with patients and staff. She is covered for liability through the Social Work Association however we are not sure yet to what degree this coverage applies to this situation. We are reasonably certain we can obtain additional insurance coverage for her should it be useful. I have masters degrees in fine arts and psychology, and am a professional musician. I work at home only. We are starting a business of producing relaxation dvds for use in professional health care settings, including hospitals, to help patients and staff relax and heal. I produce the images and music at home and my wife does the guided imagery narration. She introduces the dvd to hospital patients and staff as part of her guided imagery work in hospitals. We want to insure that she, as well as the dvd and myself, are protected from liability in the unlikely case that there is a patient or staff reaction to her and/or the dvd. In addition to this protection (possibly through incorporation), we need help creating a licensing agreement for the dvd and the training in its use. I welcome any suggestions regarding how to set up this protection, including forms of incorporation, online vs lawyer assisted incorporation, etc.

    With thanks,
    Cory Sea

    Hi Cory

    Welcome to Flying Solo.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I wanted to say that I love the work you guys are doing, and I wish you all the best with it.

Many professional associations have relationships with insurance companies that provide specialist cover to their members. Maybe your first point of call should be the Social Workers’ Association?

    Keep up the good work!
    Jayne

Dear Cory, I have sent you a private message. Please check.

Also, I would also make sure you do have liability insurance which can be obtained from GIO or NRMA which is necessary for any solo person to go onto other premises, including in your wife’s case, the hospitals.

Do you know of any music therapists who practise at the hospital? They may know of the contacts you need also.

    Best regards, Karen C
