Hi, My name is Sharni and I am currently developing an online plus size clothing site. I am trying to find fashionable good quality clothing for the real woman (sz 14 +) to put on my site and I am amazed by how hard it is to find good wholesalers? I know overseas is the cheap way to go, however I am struggling to find plus size clothing that is actually plus size! Plus translation is causing confusion. I have found some American wholesalers, but with the postage and dollar rate, not working out that cheap. Does anyone know some good wholesalers here in Australia that have plus size fashion wear?

Up::0Hi Sharni M,
Welcome to Flying Solo.
Sounds like a frustrating way to get your new business up and running! We’ll put a shout out on Facebook and Twitter for you and see if we can rustle up any ideas to help you out.
All the best to you and your new venture,

Once you find a good wholesaler in the USA or China, you can use our SEA COURIER service to bring the goods to your door. SEA takes longer (5-6 weeks) but much more cost effective than AIR once you get into larger orders of 20-30 kilos up.
You can get an instant shipping price to your door with our calculator at http://www.shipporter.comIn addition we have an assisted buying service which means you can buy from any website even if they say they won’t sell to you or ship to Australia. May be of use if you find some super specials on at Amazon, eBay or Walmart etc.
August 15, 2013 at 9:35 am #1147904Up::0Have you considered contacting some plus size store owners in countries where a plus size market is serviced well at good wholesale prices / margins for you?
Im guessing USA is a solid start?
Personally I’d try to find a store owner over there (you may have to canvas a few) to mentor you / supply you / partner with you in some way. Maybe just mentor you, or put you onto some wholesalers. I guess you may find some here, but my gut says you’ll probably struggle.
An independent store owner should be able to give you insight into margins, what people want and other things you can learn from their mistakes.
Just a thought.

Hi Dave, thanks for that. I will def look at your site as we do have a contact in America so one o our options was to get him to send over if we could find a cheaper bulk courier .

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the advise, definitely a good idea. I am mainly looking at USA as you say – looking at a plus size market def the place to start! I have friends in the plus size industry, plus I am also doing studies here in Australia through fb, and other plus size forums for interests in certain styles of clothing, etc. My main goal is to find Australian suppliers and designers who are interested in making big girls look good! Having fashions for plus size clothes that don’t look like tent dresses and floral disasters… once I have found this I am set!
Cheers againSeptember 11, 2013 at 8:09 am #1147907Up::0Hi Sharni,
You’ve come to the right place to ask for help.
I am aware of a reputed company who designs & supplies trendy wholesale plus size dresses for retailers. Here is their links :

I just came across your thread. Are you still interested in finding a wholesaler for plus size womens clothing? I recently manufactured my own range of Plus Size Women’s Active Wear ranging from sizes 10 to 20 (the sizing is very generous).
My directions in life have changed and am seeking a retailer, wholesaler etc of whom would be interested to take the items on for further resell etc.
Many thanks,

I am situated in BrisbaneHi;
One site that would give you a good idea what is popular and has a great range is http://www.coldwatercreek.com. I am 14+ and am short so I buy all my pettite size 14+ on that site. They may be able to give you an idea where they source their clothes. Once your up and running I will be your first customer I buy from the USA, ship to my parents in the USA and then bring them back to Australia every trip to the USA, as there is almost nothing in petite (short stature) and over 12+ here in Australia.Tracy in Melbourne
