Hey guys,

I’m a WA based designer.

Thought I’d let you know, I’m running a Facebook competition offering a free logo design and business cards. Great kickstarter for your business and you’ve got an excellent chance of winning :)

I have always been sceptical about “give away” schemes like this as I feel like it is not going to bring the customers you want as much as bringing those who are likely to chase free with passion but spend little on things they actually need.

what is your goal for this marketing campaign to get some “real life” examples of your work or to get possibly future customers from the participants

It’s not free anyhow, just false advertising. Plus you have to annoy 2 of your friends, sick of this kind of rubbish, but thats all that marketers have left to suggest

Just for clarity. OP posted about a competition he is running on another platform. He requires you tag 2 x friends, share the post and like the page.

Seems legit to me, not a scam… but a lot of work to be entered into a competition.

Don’t think I said it was a scam, they are your words @Paul – FS Concierge , I said it wasnt free, I have to share, tag (or annoy 2 friends), and like the post, ie, keep getting updates. Thats not free, sadly in todays society everyone thinks money, there are more things that we give.

Hi Dan.

For small businesses, my experience of getting customers is via word of mouth, I run a printing business in Melbourne and I work with a few graphic designers, and we help each other by referring customers. So, it’s important to socialise, putting your face to the market is as important as creating a beautiful portfolio of works.

Also, set your price at a comfortable level that your service deserves. Your clients’ success will be the best vote of confidence to your works.

You can also put your business on Google map and facebook and other business directories. But I think by far the better option is via referrals.

Cheers,
Peter
