    Hi All,

I am just looking for some free internet directories in which I can add my business to hopefully help with traffic to my website, phone calls and increased business.

If you could just list out some directories in which you found to be effective, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers

You could start off with the well known ones like yellow pages, start local, true local etc…

There may even be some directories out there specifically for businesses in your industry which will probably be more effective. Some quick googling will bring them up.

    Hi Samuel,

Like Stuart suggested stick to the main ones like Yellow pages, Yelp etc.

And then find industry associations etc that are relevant for your industry.

Don’t waste time adding your business to every business directory you come across the links you do get from these will be of little value Google will see them as of no relevance to your business.

One good link from a high authority relevant site is worth much more than a lots of low value links like those you’ll get from business directories.

Here’s a great article form Kate Toon on listing in directories.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Warren,

I agree with the others – don’t waste too much time on online business directories. I would just focus on the top 5 – 10 main ones, and then possibly look at a couple of industry related directories also.

Here’s a good blog about the Top 10 Australian Business Directories

Hope this helps – and make sure to write a unique profile for each listing on each website.

    Thanks

Agreed with what the others have said. Also I think there are some quote websites which may be relevant for your business and industry – might be useful to search for those – they do charge a fee for each quote though.

Getting your happy customers to write positive reviews about you will also be helpful – you can use sites like Yelp, WOMO etc…

    Hi Sam,
IMHO, you won’t get any measurable increase in business by listing in online general directories.

Directories will list your address as Nanago. You want to target people on the Gold Coast and Brisbane – 200+ km away from you. The people in Brisbane who search in business directories will be looking up Brisbane based services and your business is unlikely to be even listed.

If you think links from these types of sites will help your Google ranking, forget it. If anything, these directory listings are likely to work against you.

Your two main website problems are:

    a. No attempt to define the search questions that potential customers will ask about your services.

    b. No content that would answers these questions.

It should be fairly easy to generate online enquiries for your various services but you won’t do it with what you have online at present.

Links support search phrase rankings, they don’t drive them. I.e., if the content is not on the site to start with, link building won’t help you.
    Regs,
    JohnW
