My workload is increasing rapidly at the moment so I am looking for a bookkeeper or bookkeeper(s) to to do some work on a subcontract basis. Initially there won’t be a lot of work but the way things are going that could change from one week to the next. So the capacity to take on more work would be desirable.

I am in Sydney and service most of the Sydney area so you would need to be willing to travel wherever the work is. Initially the work will be offsite but onsite work down the track is most likely. You need to be qualified to a minimum of Cert IV (if you don’t know what that is then you are not the right person) and have good knowledge of MYOB and Quickbooks and a desire to learn Xero (Xero experience a bonus). Good written and verbal english is a must.

If you are interested send me an email with some information about yourself and experience and I will contact you (most likely after hours).

    Darren

    Hi

I also am a contract bookkeeper with an overload of work, I guess it is a good problem to have! The introduction of the BAS Agent registration will probably make things even busier.

Have you thought of listing your vacancy on the Australian Bookkeeper’s Forum or the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers website?

    Kind Regards
    Robyn

Yes, it is a good problem to have isn’t it :)

I am getting desparate now. I have trialled a few people but they will not work out. Why are people so random and unprofessional?

If there is a “good” bookkeeper/accountant out there who wants adecent amount of work and can think for themselves then please get in contact with me. I’m willing to pay a decent hourly rate for the right person.

If your interested give me a call. I need someone ASAP.

I have the same problem! But of all the problems to have its one of the best.

Lots of very bad bookkeepers out there (just look at the books of some of the clients that come through the door), but finding good ones or just those with a reasonable level of common sense and a willingness to learn is hard.

    Good luck, Rhys

What areas of Sydney are you requiring someone?

    Selene,

Thanks for the offer; and that’s one of the beauties of running clients on a hosted bookkeeping solution like Xero, the client, the bookkeeper and I do not need to be in the same place. So whilst I am in North Sydney I have clients across Sydney, in Wollongong, in Canberra, in rural NSW, and a several in various other states. So whilst having a bookkeeper who is reasonably close to North Sydney would be nice, for the right person this is not essential,

    Cheers, Rhys

    Hi Darren,

Have a look at First Class Accounts. They are also trained in Xero software.
You can go on their website http://www.firstclassaccounts.com and search for a bookkeeper by postcode.

You can also so the same on the ICB website.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Trish,

I think the issue there – for both Darren & I (forgive me Darren for being so presumptious) – is that the service he & I offer is pretty much that which First Class Accounts offer, that is you guys are competitors! Like you I (and I think Darren) go “beyond bookkeeping”, but outsourcing the basic data entry to a competitor would be very difficult to manage. No I am looking for bookkeepers to employ. Like Darren I can only see the current volume growing.

Thanks for the bookkeeping contact in Melbourne,

    Cheers, Rhys

You are 100% correct Rhys. My work is a lot more than data entry with most of it being a semi internal accountant or advisory role. A lot of my work involves being presented with a problem file (say in MYOB) and it having to be reviewed, do set up changes, reconcile it and then train the client how to use the system properly. A lot of my work is onsite, and I have clients all over Sydney. I do have some clients on Xero but others insist on staying with what they have (ie either MYOB or Quickbooks).

Essentially, the work involves accounting knowledge, not just MYOB or Quickbooks knowledge and there lies the problem. I need to be able to give someone a file with some instruction and they be able to take from start to finish without me giving them step by step instruction. My clients receive a high level of service so I expect the same from anyone doing for me. Maybe I’m asking too much but even to check email once a day seems too hard for some people. If you are running a business, even as a subcontractor, I thought this would be a given but it seems I am wrong.

Sorry, rant over. Resume normal programming.

    Hi Darren,

    Thanks for the call.

(BTW don’t panic too much about the ATO auditor thing.
That was about 15 years ago in a previous life :-) )

Hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm, maybe you are the competitor not FCA! Sounds like we offer very similar services. But then its a very big and very fragmented market – maybe we should catch up for a coffee and a yarn – PM me if you’d like to,

    Cheers, Rhys

Darren & Rhys – I totally understand your need for “more than just bookkeeping”. I believe your needs can be catered for with those that I’ve suggested. I don’t believe FCA or my Melb suggestion to be your competitor at all. Aren’t you after a service? They are a service provider.

Thanks Trish, I thought FCA offered some other services “beyond bookkeeping”, for instance in the areas such as management accounting, management reporting, business advisory, systems advice, etc (which are just a few of the areas in which we offer services). If they don’t then I guess there is more of an opportuntity to work together rather than be in competition – I will take a look at this, thanks again for the suggestion,

    Cheers, Rhys
