Hi I am beginning a poetry gift ware business. I to also include artwork on some of the T-Shirts as well. I would like some advice on how I can negotiate a payment rate for the people who I choose to contract to do the art work for me?

Hi and welcome to Flying Solo @Studio-Melver

The best way would simply be to open a discussion around what you are looking for with people that could deliver to your standard.

Once you have spoken to a few, you should get an idea around what seems the going rate.

Then work the numbers to see if your business would be profitable.

    Cheers

    Hi @Studio-Melver,

I’d suggest a % of sales payment structure i.e. the contractors take a % of whatever art work that gets sold. This way, you pass on the risk associated with not being able to sell their art work. You can also do a combination of fixed fee and % of sales, to pass on some of that risk but still give the contractors a bit of fixed pay.

You may want to consider what the art industry norm is when it comes to making payments to contractors.

    Hope this helps.

    Shirley
