    Hi everyone,

Have been a “shadow” member of Flying Solo community for over 3 years now, patiently following your news, tips, discussions, threads. You all been great support, motivation and, gradually, an inspiration to start our own business online.
After almost 1 year of thinking, planning, sourcing and more thinking “our” baby was born- kicked out into the jungles of virtual reality (hoping it will survive:))
It’s been 1 week since we “went live”. Not much of experience really… Every day checking statistics with trepidation and hope to find at least one customer.
Yes, we know it’s early days yet and so much still needs to be doing, before anyone can discover it.
Just wondering if anyone would be able to give us their honest opinion about our site- we have been working on it night and day ourselves, that most likely we forgot to ask UTTERLY important question: is it, actually, ok? Does it look the way people want it to see? We are in desperate need of real critique, words of advise.
Thank you so much in advance for your support!

Your site needs content. What geographical location are you targeting? Global or Aus?

I have just had a look at your site. You don’t have a contact number and also you don’t have a Unique Selling Proposition. You don’t have any reason for me to buy from you.

    There are many other points.

    Hello,
Congratulations on your new site. Seems you have put a lot of dedication into it so far.
    Just a few initial observations…..

    1. To really compete in the current market ‘free delivery’ in Australia is a must and a very simple consumer friendly returns policy. Too many options…
    2. I think you do have a point of difference based on your story – “All our linen fabrics come from Lithuania, charming Baltic country, famous for its finest quality organic linen. Linen was and remains an important part of European culture”.
    3. You need to make a bigger song and dance about this message “Linen, the world’s oldest and most luxurious textile, is known for it’s antiallergic properties, creates the best microclimate for our skin- it absorbs the moisture and sweat perfectly, but preserves the natural skin oils, thus keeping the skin well nourished and looking younger.
No nasty chemicals have been used in growing and manufacturing linen and because of it’s fantastic health properties it is perfect for people with various health issues, like asthma, eczema, etc. Linen sheets are the healthiest choice for your entire family!”
This is really something to say…..and should be mentioned on every single product description….eg if its Organic, scream that out….if its antiallergic….scream it!!…….people want this type of product.
    4. Product images I feel can be improved…. Consumers want to see clearly how the finished product will look in their home. e.g. with your Duvets….show the whole bed. While this image is taken in a lovely setting and vintage inspired….I can’t see how my bed will look when its fully dressed…..so would hesitate to buy…. http://www.houseofbalticlinen.com/stripes-and-buttons/
Similar with the bedthrows…I would like to see it layed at the end of a made up bed so I get ideas on how to co-ordinate.
    5. What type of marketing are you doing and how are you currently driving traffic to the site? This is obviously key.
    6. Is your facebook set up?? As I clicked your FB link and nothing?? You need to ensure this works and drive your likes.
    7. Pinterest / Story boards / Mood boards – Very important for this category. The consumer wants to see how it all comes together.
Pinterest would be valuable for your to drive concepts so you gain more than one item purchases….eg…the Duvet, Sheets, Throw etc……

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers
    Elizabeth

    Hi Monika,

    Welcome to Flying Solo!

You must be very excited to see your site online after all your hard work. Your products are stunning, and I hope your new business is a great success.

To get the best feedback on your site, I recommend starting a new thread in the Community Reviews section of the forum. First please take a few moments to review the specific guidelines that apply to that section of the forum (you’ll find them at the top of the page in that part of the site), and to answer the series of questions there about what you’re trying to achieve.

    Good luck,
    Jayne

    Dear All!
Thank you so much for your time and great comments- an extremely useful source and inspiration to do more work work work…and more work…It never stops, isn’t it?:)
I am not entirely sure what John Romaine means saying the site needs content? Do you mean more written information? Or products? In regards of geographical targeting I do agree with your point- it is not entirely clear (actually I am not entirely sure myself). The idea was an Australian market, as we live here, plus we can offer good shipping rates. As with the rest of the world market, unfortunately, we are in big dissadvantage, not able to deliver cheap. But then again, our profit margins are really low, so if you compare with other linen sellers online around the world, our final product price for consumer (with delivery) probably would still be cheaper than anywhere else. In regards of Australian market, we did a massive research prior to setting our prices, and it seems we have the most competitive prices on the market so far.
Huge, massive thanks to Elizabeth for your wonderful extensive review!!! I am already working on our Facebook page. I know, this was a big mistake to start website without it (as well as Pinterest and proper Twitter)! I am blaming myself for it Big time!
As for images- yes, I agree with you, and we will change those as per your comments.
Currently, there is not much marketing going on, practically, none, as all the efforts were on preparations and website. So that will be another big job to do. As per marketing golden law- product is a core! So the branding job will follow shortly.
Tony, I have carefully studied all competitors, trying to identify their ‘unique selling propositions’, but to be honest, couldn’t see anything more than they sell “natural linen” things or beautiful home textiles. Our ‘uniqueness’ is that everything is made of natural organic linen, we design everything ourselves, sew in Europe (Asia is eliminated from the process unlike majority of house textile producers) plus we keep the most competitive prices. We did write our story http://www.houseofbalticlinen.com/about-us-1/ and gave all (we believe) reasons to believe in us.
Jayne, thank you so much, will definitely look into Community Reviews section!

    Hello

You’ve got the making of a great website. Congrats!

Don’t sweat it about Facebook. It is a traffic generator, but there are other means of doing this. You worked on your website, and this is super important.

To make a few tweaks, I’d suggest you try out my USP generator – you’ll see it on the link. Then put that on your website.

As a stranger visiting your site, there aren’t enough reasons for me to look further. Pop your USP up there, right at the top, or over the images. Words are what connect and engage us and speak to us. Images are there to support the words, not instead of them.

I’ve done lots of free website tweaks youtubes for my product-based web customers, so I suggest you have a listen to them here youtube.com/springintosales.

Also, as a blatant plug, I’m running an online website tweaks workshop right now, and it would really help you to drive sales through your site. One of my customer just changed 1 small thing and got 2 sales immediately. Prior to that she only got 1 per month….

    Good luck!

    Jenny
