Hi guys,
I purchased all my previous domains using Namecheap under my personal information (sole trader).
I just registered a company recently, and want to place those domain names under the ownership of that company.
Just wondering what is recommended here?
Creating a new Namecheap account and transferring seems like a time waste (e.g. website might be down for a few days) because I’m just transferring it back to myself.

The domain registration and web hosting are distinct services and there is no reason for a loss of web services during the transfer processSeptember 28, 2021 at 3:29 pm #1231078Up::0Just setup a Namecheap account in the name of the Company. Then you will do what’s usually known as a ‘Push’ (change of ownership) from the old account to the new one. Check this support article – https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/1187/8/how-can-i-move-a-domain-from-one-namecheap-account-to-another/ or engage their support guys when you’re ready.
Just make sure you leave the NS (Name Server) settings ‘as is’ and the website won’t go down.September 28, 2021 at 3:29 pm #1231075Up::0You will have to contact your registrar in the .au commercial space (.com.au and .net.au) to complete a registrant transfer.
You won’t experience downtime because you aren’t changing hosts etc. auDA has more info: https://www.auda.org.au/au-domain-names/domain-name-help/transfer-name-different-registrant

You should be able to change the contact details for each domain registered. This article might be helpful – https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/305/46/how-do-i-change-the-contact-information-for-my-domain/
If you need to open a new account to keep domains separate, it’s quite simple to transfer domains, especially if you’re using the same registrar. You will need to start with the current registrar/account and select the option ‘transfer my domain’. You will then receive a code which you enter in the new registrar/account ‘transfer a domain’ section. The process can take a few days or more and might require extra confirmation with ICANN depending on the top level domain e.g. ‘.com’ (you’ll receive an email asking for confirmation of change).
During the transfer process, you should have an option to set DNS records or use an alternative DNS server with the new registrar/account (this is required short term to keep traffic going to the right place), simply set the DNS address as the old registrar’s DNS address (in your case, transferring to a different account, this will be the same server). When the transfer is complete, you can configure the new DNS settings with the settings from the previous account (make sure you export/write down all the DNS records from the old account before the transfer).
I hope that helps! However, let me know if you have any more questions. I just transferred a bunch of domains myself so it’s nice and fresh in my mind.
