Not sure if everyone is aware that as of 15 January, Facebook have updated their rules. You are now prohibited from having more than 20% banner space devoted to text.
From the Facebook pages guidelines:
Covers may not include:
- images with more than 20% text;
- price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it on socialmusic.com”;
- contact information such as a website address, email, mailing address, or information that should go in your Page’s “About” section;
- references to Facebook features or actions, such as “Like” or “Share” or an arrow pointing from the cover photo to any of these features; or
- calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends.”
This article provides a useful graphic showing what 20% of the banner space looks like.

Anna Good. Thanks for sharing
These restrictions have been around for a while or have they just rejigged them a little?

The restrictions regarding contact details, calls to action, etc. have been in place since the timelines were launched, but the restriction on how much of the banner can be devoted to text was only just introduced in January.

And while it may be tempting to think “bugger it.. they’ll never know”, there have been a number of businesses (here and abroad) whose pages have been suspended for flouting the rules.
Better to be safe than sorry, I think.

Thank you for providing the article! Very useful to get a visual for 20% text.
Cheers
