Hi, I’m a new member to this site. I am a WAHM. In Feb 2011, I decided that I really needed something else to get my brain moving. Being a full time mum is fantastic, but I needed something else. So after lots of discussion with my hubby I started my own business from home.

I own Munchkin Nappy Cakes. I design and make Nappy & Towel cakes for all ages. I love what I do, but it hasn’t really taken off like I would’ve hoped. There is so much competition out there and it’s hard to break into esp when money is so tight. I have my own Facebook page, website, Twitter page, blog and do markets sometimes to get myself known. Word of mouth is working the best for me at the minute. We are going to give it a few more months before we turn it into a part-time hobby. Not what I really want, but financially and time wise it is what has to happen if things got pick up.

I would love any ideas or help anyone could give me. Thanks.

    Hi Michelle,

Welcome – hope you find what you are looking for on these forums. Everyone is great :)

I know a couple of WAHM that have signed up to a facebook page called Send In The Troops (you will just need to search for it on facebook). Maybe this might help to build some profile and then you can just post, post, post, post, to get “out there”.

    Good Luck with it all.

    Cheers,
    Sam

Hi Michelle and welcome. I am new here as well. Sam, is there anything like Send in the troops for Aussie businesses? Great concept but I really need an Aussie based type network as my business is retail.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your responses.

Sam – I have been on the Australian Send In The Troops page on FB and actually been marched on. Also been included in the Emu march on Aussies Supporting Aussies. Helped to increase my likers and get me out there, but not doing much for sales. But I keep trying and putting my name out there just about everyday. I am busy at the min sorting out my webpage, giving it a total overhaul. Never give up – esp about something you are passionate about :)

Natalie – good luck to you. FB is a big help and gets your name out there. Here are some links that you might find useful if you haven’t already found them.

These are just a few. There are so many out there. Good luck & best wishes :)

thanks so much Michelle, Ill go and have a look now. Your nappy cakes are amazing and lets hope you can gets lots of great ideas on promotions. I wonder, if its worth teaming up with other people from the newborn industry ( such as photographers in your area) and offer something through there?

    Hi Michelle,

Your products look great and I like your website. Have you tried the baby shows? My sister inlaw has a business targeting a similar market and she does really well out of the shows.

Thanks so much for your comment. I am actually in the process of making some major changes to my website. Hoping that it will do better in such a jam packed competitive market. Thanks for the tip about baby shows. Never thought of that. Good idea, will have to try it out :)
