    Hey all,

I was looking for a business / startup discussion forum and I came across Flying Solo. I remember reading about it on a website, but I can’t remember which one!

I’m looking forward to learning off others and vice versa!

I work for myself as a freelance Graphic Designer and have clients all around the world. I specialise in print and web design, but have created a few app designs too.

You’re welcome to visit my website: http://www.ckgd.net/ if you want to see what type of work I do.

It’s nice to know that other people are around who go through the same stresses and lifestyle as myself!

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome to the forums!

Have you posted your work on The Loop? There are lots of great freelance opportunities there. I recently saw a couple of agencies advertising for people to freelance for some AFL projects, which, after looking at your folio, seems to be right up your alley! Check it out if you haven’t already. http://www.theloop.com.au

    Hi Chris,

Can I bounce a question off you?

I’m currently looking into studying graphic design to better my business and maybe do a bit of freelance stuff on the side as well. The only thing holding me back is that I SUCK at drawing. I lot of my friends have put me off by saying I will really struggle through the course. Is this true? Do you really have to be a good drawer to be successful in the industry?

P.S. welcome to Flying Solo :)

    Hey Alana,

    Sure! Not a problem.

Drawing is a tough one. Graphic Design is such a broad field, that you can get by without knowing how to draw (in terms of illustrations). It’s more important, for the majority of work, to know what hierarchy is, how to draw storyboards, wireframes, etc. Because Graphic Design should be considered more about how to communicate information visually hierarchy is seriously undervalued by a lot of people starting out and even with a couple of years of experience.

So, I’d say no. My illustration skills aren’t one of my strong points, but I feel as though clients hire my for my other values.

I hope that helps. If you would like more information, I’ll be happy to answer! :)

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome aboard.

Nice portfolio you’ve got going there.

I noticed some of the work you’ve done for Monster, and Primo – have you done anything else in the way of product packaging, and display design?

    All the best mate!

    Hey MrD,

I have done further product packaging and display design. I either choose not to show everything in my portfolio or I can’t because of an NDA. Majority of the work I choose not to show, though.

I have done quite a few labels now, especially for drinks and supplements.

Are you in need of something in particular?
