Hi Everyone,
I have started an online business selling lockets and inspirational giftware. I have created a web page using Wix, bought a domain name and got an ABN number. I have opened a facebook page as well.
I have sourced stock from China and Australia. The web page has been up and running for a few weeks. I am getting traffic but no sales as of yet. The traffic is mostly coming from the facebook site.
Is there anything else anyone could suggest in order to get more traffic and some sales? My business does not come up when I do a search so I have been working on getting the SEO settings right. Which is slightly confusing!!
Will be starting an AdWords campaign soon, which might help.
I have no business training at all and this is my first business. I hope to expand into more giftware related items once I start to make some money.
Any help would be appreciated…thanks.

Welcome to Flying Solo and congrats on taking those first few steps! If you can share some specifics, you might be surprised at the insights our members are willing to offer.
How much traffic have you had so far? And if you can share your website/facebook address, you’ll get far more specific advice.
Good luck.
Dave

Have you tried selling on eBay? Sometimes it’s best to get some sales under your belt.
Online retail is very competitive and it can time (and money) to start building a brand.
July 13, 2015 at 10:27 pm #1185549Up::0Thanks for the quick reply. I am using google analytics to watch the traffic. I have had 540 sessions since June 29 they are staying for around 50 seconds.

- Spelling
- Grammar
- I love your business name, but when it appears 6 times in one relatively short paragraph it is a BIG mouth full.
- From your picture on the home page, it looks more lie you are selling stones than lockets, make the lockets more prominent
- The how it works, have you test driven this with anyone, you need to think of the KISS principal, people will get into the first step and think, all to hard.
- Anyone who has read my reviews knows my pet hate is been unable to contact someone accept thru a nameless and faceless email contact form. I look at your site, with all the spelling and Grammar and then I cant even talk to a real human. Personalize your website, you are selling a personal product, trying to grab peoples emotions, make it personal
Personally I think you need to fix these issues before you spend any time or money on SEO, you need your website to look professional. Once you get a potential buyer, you need to grab and keep them.

Keep working on your social media, I would be cautious about starting an adwords campaign yourself, you may throw money away. Perhaps boost some Facebook posts if that is where your interaction is coming from at the moment. Facebook allows you to direct your promotion to your ideal clients and it is an affordable starting point for a lot of businesses.July 14, 2015 at 1:44 am #1185554July 14, 2015 at 1:56 am #1185555Up::0TehCamel, post: 217273, member: 7341 wrote:Bert, you actually encouraged me to put a livechat on my site and see how it goes..
Andy, Don’t want to take over this thread. But I had a look at your live chat. difference’s between this and the ones I mentioned in my other thread. You don’t jump out at me insisting my attention, it sits quietly waiting for me to go to it, in sight but not intrusive. Others take up 30% of the real estate, and pop up annoyingly, yours has a very small footprint, but still noticeable.
And the big thing when I talk to the live chat, I get immediate responses, not read script than decide what I have to say, a real human being who knows what to say.July 15, 2015 at 10:22 pm #1185556July 16, 2015 at 2:39 am #1185557Up::0Hi there,
As a WordPress developer myself I may be a bit biased but have you considered another option besides Wix?
From my understanding Wix is used by people who want to build brochure type websites which is fine, but you have an online store – you might want to consider using a specficially build e-commerce website builder (as it looks like you were trying to save money by making the store yourself).
I know it’s a bit late now that you’ve all ready setup the website but the hard part is done, I haven’t used any of these personally but you could check out Shopify:
http://www.shopify.com/pricing
It starts at $29p/m which I’m sure is within your price range but the Shopify templates (some of them) – look really nice and professional:
Check them out. I’ve also noticed that your webiste is a bit slow to browse and WORST OF ALL I see that there are no unique URLs for your different pages, so instead of yourstore.com.au/category/product-name your store has teh URL structure of
yourstore.com.au/#!memory-bracelets/caob
From what I know Google hates weird URL structure like this and I don’t know how well indexed it would be (you would need to check Google Webmaster Tools) – I know this would not be an issue with Shopify.
Anyway hope that’s added to your arsenal – don’t doubt yourself and you’ve done the most important step of getting out there and putting your foot in the water – I wish you all the best of luck!
Best,
KostaJuly 16, 2015 at 6:34 am #1185558Up::0I have a quick look at Shopify today. Looks heaps better than Wix.
I might need to consider changing to Shopify if the chances of getting more traffic and some sales increase. Would love to hear from other Shopify users before making the move. Thanks
July 17, 2015 at 6:55 am #1185559Up::0Yeah, I know WIX say you can rank well with them but I don’t know anyone who actually has been able to. I’d switch to a wordpress site.
