    Hi all,
I am a new member and am setting up a new medical practise (small scale, part time). I need to purchase some medical sotware but do not want to incur annual fees and would prefer to buy software outright. Does anyone know of any good software?

    Hi Majella,

Just a few thoughts on your question .. sorry I don’t actually know of any software that will help you.

Even the best software today will be out of date next year. The acceleration of technology and how it will benefit a company is something to keep in mind. Most good software will be sold with an option for you to buy a support plan or not. There will be a time soon when you will need to upgrade the software (due to incompatibility issues) and usually this is when you are made to pay more than if you had stayed current with a support plan. Plus you will need to learn all the new features you had been missing out on.

I have a cabinet full of software I own outright .. but don’t ever use because they are out of date and quite useless.

These days everyone seems to be going to “cloud” or online software use. This is a pay-as-you-go system that really costs the same or more in the long run than if you had bought a standalone package, however it is more convenient.

What do you need the software to do? I may be able to help you and you may not need to use software specifically for the medical industry.

    Cheers ..Bruce

    Hi Majella,

Welcome to Flying Solo, and thanks for introducing yourself to us.

I’m not the right person to answer your question, and no doubt others will chime in with some suggestions to go along with those from Bruce (thanks Bruce!), but I’m wondering whether you mean practise management software (patient management, prescriptions etc) or business management software (accounting etc)… or is there such a thing as an option that does both?

Good luck finding the right option.

    All the best,
    Jayne
