    Morning all

    Hope you’re all well.

    Just signed up to the forum to hopefully share ideas and help us on our way with our new business.
    We are theflipflopco.
    We produce and sell natural rubber flip-flops, with an underlying environmental and ethical basis for all of our work. We are based in Melbourne and will be operating online only.
    We are currently having our product finalised in the next few days, and then it will be into production for the australian summer.

    Our main concentration now is on social media marketing/website and shipping and logistics from China.

    We would be really interested in finding out if anyone has any useful tips on who to use for freight and logistics. And also, anyone with experience in building a social network following, or a referral of a specialist company they have used to help them.

    Great to join the group here, and we can’t wait to share ideas

    What an exciting stage of your business. Building a social media following from scratch can take time, so to get things moving I’d try to partner with other companies who have similar environmental/ethical values.

    -Run a giveaway or discount to their email list.
    -You promote them, they promote you.
    -Start by following similar brands to yours and following their followers.

    We do have a bunch of members experienced in logistics so sit tight for some advice from them. :)

    Certainly is Dave. Lots going on, very overwhelming, but equally exciting as you say :)
    We have set up a presence on the popular forms of social media, and have started following/engaging with those of similar values to us. Some great ideas there in regards to promotional ideas in the run up to the launch. I will look into sorting a few of those.

    Looking forward to hearing some info from the logistics gurus on here. Ive just managed to find a lady who may be of some help through the forum, but I’m excited to see who else can throw some information at us.

    What a great tool this forum is, glad i stumbled across it :)

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

    Some general info to keep in mind when importing:

    You will be required to pay 10% GST on the value of the goods + freight cost.
    You may be eligible for a duty concession according to the FTA with China.

    Air Freight – A good option if you need fast transit times and your volumes are small to medium.

    Ocean Freight – Slower transit times but cheaper than air freight. LCL (less than container load), your goods will be consolidated into a container with other peoples goods. Good option for med volumes. If large volumes then FCL (full container load) is best.

    Courier – Your supplier may be able to provide a half decent door to door courier price if your volume is low. China factories usually use UPS and the like.
