Hi everyone,
My name is Peter and I am from Oeck. My friend and I spent the last two years working on a new type of VPN. We are currently running an a free, open beta and we are getting close to a release date.
We decided to register here and try and learn some tips and tricks from those of you who have done these things before.
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and meeting new people!
Regards,
Peter @ Oeck.June 25, 2020 at 11:13 pm #1223511Up::0Hi Peter and welcome to Flying Solo.
I bet two years represents a lot of blood, sweat and tears. And hopes and dreams.
What is your USP?
Good luck!
June 25, 2020 at 11:49 pm #1223512Up::0Hi Paul,
Yes, it has been pretty intense for both of us, as well as our families. But, it is all worth it.
Our USP… big question.
Oeck actually brings a few unique features to the industry. As far as we know, no other VPN does what we do and how we do it. Here are a few key points.
Device Profiles – These work as individual accounts within your subscription. This allows you to setup different VPN rules and settings on a per-device ( or per-person ) basis.
Automatic Unblocking – There is now no longer a need to connect to a VPN server based in the location of the service you are trying to access. Just connect to the VPN server closest to you and we do all the work for you. This is fully automated and creates a great user experience.
For the sake of keeping this post short, all other information can be found on our website as this post will become a slab of text. The following links have all of the information.
https://www.oeck.com/features/
https://www.oeck.com/manual/For those who don’t know what our service does, it is a service that secures your online traffic and allows you to bypass geo-restrictions for various services. We also own all of our own hardware and do not log any user activity.

Peter @ Oeck.June 26, 2020 at 1:50 am #1223513Up::0Just an observation.
Your USP is not writ large on your homepage, or at all that I could find – no explainer videos etc, comparison checklists etc.
I could make an argument – when is a USP, not a USP?
When it is hidden. Or effectively hidden, buried in sub-pages.
I am trying on purpose to be provoke thought – but not at all to criticise or cause ill-will.
Cheers
June 26, 2020 at 10:14 am #1223514Up::0Congratulations and good luck. Its a nice website, however don’t forget the most important. Make it clear it is a VPN service as soon as the page load, right at the top otherwise you may see high bounce rate.
I am desperately trying to connect to Hulu, but its not even working with ExpressVPN because I think they also detect if your credit card is US.
June 26, 2020 at 10:18 am #1223515Up::0This is what I get when wanting to download to Mac
macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.
Unfortunately I don’t know you or your business so I cannot take the risk of installing.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the heads up. We are still finalising some pages so they will be changing before beta. There still needs to be another section added to the main page.

Hi VoIPSmart,
We have been tossing up the idea of not fully identifying as a VPN. The reason for this is because it works a lot differently to one, even though when it comes to the security side (what an actual VPN is made for) we go above and beyond for our customers privacy and security.
For example, lets assume you live in Sydney. To watch Hulu, simply connect to the Sydney server so all of your internet traffic is nice and fast. Hulu will automatically work. You can even go as far as to set different region routes for different streaming services.
As far as Hulu goes, grab an account with these guys, they are great.

Totally understandable. The reason for that is because we are still in beta and the apps are not in the mac app store. Once it is in the app store that warning will go away.
However, we built our service to not rely on our apps! So, you can use any other third-party OpenVPN client. You can then just load our .ovpn file into it ( you generate it here – https://www.oeck.com/downloads/ovpn/ – simply select your OS and settings ) and away you go. The only feature you will miss out on is our kill-switch. The rest will function as intended.
I do however highly suggest you read our manual – https://www.oeck.com/manual/learn/
The reason for this is that we have introduced new features that are not available with any other VPN provider. We have made things extremely simply and automated, requiring the user to do less in order to do more. So those that “know exactly” how a VPN service works need to read the manual.
Please let me know if I can help in any way if you would like to test our service.

Do more with OECK than Any other VPN
OECK needs the user to do less to get more.
or
A platform (or VPN) that needs the user to do less to get more.
Just for interest Peter, check out this page introducing Hey, a boring old email platform. Pre-launch, they had over 120,000 people asking for an invite on an almost $0 marketing budget…wait for it…
for an email service that cost $99/year.
That said, they developed Basecamp (from memory) so they had a big fan base already.
And they picked a fight with Apple… and won. That generated a lot of Buzz.
A very sneaky but effective plan
Cheers
June 27, 2020 at 12:33 am #1223518Up::0Full disclosure and general VPN user feedback of a non-techie oriented person.
I have Cyber Ghost and hardly use it.
I took a Chromebook with me to Thailand and Cambodia and couldn’t get some services to work eg, Iview and Foxtel Go, Stan (paid subscriptions of mine).
I would have appreciated a Youtube channel run by the VPN with a series of explainer videos.
And a money back guarantee. I will not be an on-going customer of theirs because of my experience.

Hi Paul,
Thank you very much for the tip! I really appreciate it. It is great that you took the time with this. The link to Hey you provided did show a contrast between their websites content and ours. We will also write an Manifesto.

Unfortunately at this point video’s are out of the question as we have simply ran out of time. Money is also going to be an issue regarding the production of them, regardless of how simple they may be.
Yes, I agree with you on the point of refunds. When we created Oeck it was very much done from a consumer point of view. That is why you will find our refund policy is extremely consumer-friendly. As far as I am aware, no other VPN company has a refund policy like ours.

Peter @ Oeck.
Happy to have some input that provokes thought. I am glad you appreciate it. It is very kind of you to provide feedback.See the bolded quote above. Your replies keep delivering potential marketing gems! Well, copywriting gems at least
Let me explain.
“When we created Oeck it was very much done from a consumer point of view.”
=
Oeck, The People’s VPN
Another way to express, the set and forget function.
Oeck, A Non-Techie Person’s VPN Dream
Or Oeck, A Non-Techie’s VPN Dream
Bye, the bye, you can get some videos done without budget over time by existing Youtubers eg, tech Youtubers or Travel Youtubers or Digital Nomad Youtubers.
With or without affiliate programs depending on the Youtubers circumstances.
It might be something to put on your endless list
My opinion only and I have zero data for this: Most, if not all tech oriented people already subscribe to a VPN service. It is a mature market and a difficult one to crack I would imagine.
Non-techie people don’t understand VPN’s, are scared of the technical nature of them and the consumer market may accelerate faster than anticipated this time last year.
Why?
Because the Geo-political landscape is changing more rapidly than we previously thought. There seems to be one country in particular that people are talking about and mainstream media are already producing stories about new a cold war developing.
So the opportunity is to appeal to that segment of the market – non-technical people. The only thing is, they need a lot of hand holding.
Cheers Peter and best of luck with the launch.
