Hi, we have a retail business and currently use old fashion cash registers, we want to upgrade to a POS system, does anybody have any recommendations, as there are so many out there. We want to be able to scan bar codes at the register. We are not in the food industry, so dont need scales . Any help would be appreciated.

You can integrate into stock control, accounting, multiple registers, multiple sites, etc. Additionally, you’ll likely want to partner with a company that can support the devices if/when they fail to perform correctly.

What pos system you use will depend on which accounts system it feeds into.
Tyro payments have a pos system selection tool on there website.
It’s an example of what you can do and many systems vary in costs and efficiency.

January 22, 2019 at 11:41 pm #1218661Up::0We used Square for a long time, then outgrew it’s fee and charge structure. We have now moved to Tyro and Kounta – Kounta is targetted at the food industry, but it works perfectly fine for retail as well. Others we were considering were Vend and Hike for their integrations.
I think there are a lot of great inexpensive cloud solutions now.

A POS system change is an oddly fully loaded decision. There is a lot to consider and the move shouldn’t be taken lightly.
I have some very basic rules as to what constitutes good software. Thankfully there is a good selection of software and SaaS services that do a fantastic job. You are quite spoiled or choice thankfully. There is even a really decent Australian made open source system called WallacePOS.
When making a big change to a frequently used tool, consider how it contributes to your business goals. How the new tools and software can effect your customer experience.
Then think of the features your would like for a POS System. Consider if you already have systems for warehousing, ordering, accounts etc, and how they might integrate.
Cost of setup and consultancy should be considered as well.
As usual feel free to ask questions here. All the more happy to help.
