Need names of any insurance companies that have fair/good price for public liability insurance policy for training/teaching course.

If anyone knows of any liability insurance companies who have do such policies for small business owners would be appreciated. (prefer not to have to go through broker).

    Thanks
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah

I am a general insurance broker and would be able to assist you with this. I have helped another member with their business insurance in Melbourne, professional indemnity and public liability.

Glad to be able to help.

    Kind regards

    Merlin

I can put you in touch with the CEO of the Australian Institute of Professional Facilitators.

    Hi there

I’m interested in hearing how many soloists (mainly the ones who work from home as that’s the category I fall under) carry public liability and/or professional indemnity insurance.

I’m basically wondering if public liability insurance is required/recommended even if you don’t have a lot (any) foot traffic from clients.

As for the professional indemnity insurance, I admit to being perplexed as to whether this has come into play for people in my industry: website design, graphic design, editing, writing and marketing.

Note: I’m not au fait with the specific insurance terms so I was winging it. :-)

    Hi Renee!

I’m a solo training professional working from home and experienced similar difficulties getting my insurance cover. I was given a recommendation for Enrizen Insurance by someone in my network. Andrew Bray has sorted out my policy to cover me for PI and PL and I’d be happy to recommend him on to you. His contact details are: andrew@enrizen.com.au 1300 650 341. They recommend PL even if you don’t have traffic on your site as you are sometimes required to present your cover when working on other sites, for example I needed to present mine for an expo I’m exhibiting at this week. Good luck and please let me know if you need any more information.

    Regards
    Karen

    Hi Renee

I have just joined flying solo and noticed your query.

I am also a soloist having started an online insurance portal specialising in insurance for IT Contractors and Travel insurance called http://www.insuremeonline.net

Basically, having a Professional Indemnity Policy will protect you from claims by third parties arising out of the provision of your products and professional services, and a Liability policy will cover you for legal liability for personal injury or property damage caused by you or an employee of your business in providing your services, or by someone providing the services on your behalf.

Most companies that hire in contractors these days will require these policies.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

Thanks Kirrily and Karen for your information and advice. I haven’t had trouble getting insurance; it’s more related to deciding whether I actually need it. Anyway, it won’t hurt to get some quotes.

I’d still like to know how many soloists are actually carrying these forms of insurance. I’m a full-member of the Society of Editors (Vic) and they recently surveyed us regarding this matter. I’ll have to follow-up for the results.

    Thanks again.

    Hey renee,
I would imagine all consultants will carry both. I’m in marketing and it just makes good sense to protect oneself.
The yearly fee is not that extravagant…plus if you ever want to pitvch for a trnder you’ll need this.
    Good luck.
