A few weeks ago I received a phone call basically asking “Would you employ a handicapped person?”
I replied that I was a micro business and couldn’t really employ at the moment regardless and, being busy, finished the call. It’s been on my mind ever since. Who was the caller? Was it some research? An actual recruitment company?
My business can be done remotely and perfect for anyone who is home bound, so if I did need someone then being handicapped isn’t an issue.
Is there a service I can call as an addition to normal recruitment practices if the need ever arose?October 13, 2014 at 9:24 am #1173195October 13, 2014 at 10:07 am #1173196Up::0Couple It, post: 201229 wrote:Yes John, there is:http://www.disabilityemployment.org.au

You’ll find that being the type of website that it is it will strictly adhere to WCAG 2.0 All Australian Government websites all need to be compliant by next year as well from memory.
Back on topic, I’d be more than happy to employ someone with a disability once I grow a bit more and need a hand with despatch etc.
November 8, 2014 at 8:58 am #1173199Up::0John, there is an employment agency called Castle Personnel with a number of branches in NSW at least, and at least one here in Newcastle.
They are keen to get people into jobs and offer various good inducements.
I know someone who employed a shop assistant through them, and it worked out well.December 8, 2014 at 3:14 am #1173200Up::0Re: Recruitment service for handicapped? (please note the correct term is DISABLED)

Thanks Bright Spark. I am still struggling with this, the first employee quit after four hours saying it was too hard, and the second, who performed very well all her first day, has been unavailable for a variety of unconvincing reasons ever since; yet I still hope she will resume work soon.
