    Hi all,

I have been climbing corporate ladder of insurance company for 15 years. Finally decided to take the challenge of doing it on my own.

Although I know insurance but I am a baby in terms of starting up own business. I have been browsing through these forums to get the encouragement that I very much needed.

I will be specialising in financial line and liability insurances e.g. public, product, professional, management, cyber liabilty etc.

I will need lots of help on setting up account, trust, website, copywriting, phone apps and more than what I can think of now.

I am sure I can find some here.

Welcome. You’ll no doubt find starting your own biz can be quite rewarding.

Might help to know what State you’re in, there are a number of meet up groups who can help you get started on some of the info you need and point you in the right direction for related professions (accountant etc)

    Hi there,

Just to help others determine what your looking for, might be a good idea to just note what you will be doing by yourself (i.e. setting up ABN etc. design work, online work such as websites, accounting, advertising) and what you think you will need to hire someone else to help with.

Most aspects of a start-up people in the forum will be able to help with in the form of either advice or services.

    Good luck!

    Hi GoldenGoose,

Cyber insurance is quite new here. But it has been in the US for many years.

As we are all aware, more things can now go on the net and therefore more individuals and businesses face internet related risks exposure.

It could be virus, internet hacking, malware, spyware etc, and lately “ransom ware”.

We are familiar with some type of losses and insurance because we have seen lots of fire, flood, road accidents, diseases and therefore want insurance to reduce our financial loss or ease our pain. We are not so familiar are losses that individual and business would have to bear such as cost of communication to their customer when the lost customer information, upgrading/repair cost of computer system after it has been hacked, potential legal obligations to customers, supplier, empolyee, shareholder, legal liability within the scope of privacy act etc.

Not all losses are insurable. Cyber liability insurance would cover some of these losses.

Its going to be an insurance that all internet businesses would demand in future. It is picking up slowly but in increasing speed. Once there is a major loss reported on TV more will be aware of the risk and also get to know that there is such insurance available.

Thanks in advance Gizmo, for free advice I am sure to get from you. Ok.. I will definitely look at it as climbing personal ladder. That is already a very good advice.

I will keep your number and call when I get to that stage.

I will check the start-up forum to learn what I should be doing myself and what I should go for professional service. I am only few days old. I am sure I will get most if not all the help I need from here.

Ah, fantastic! You’ll find Adelaide has quite an active meet up group which meets up around once a month. (still kicking myself that I missed out on the last one, was overseas at the time.)

    Congratulations

First read as many posts on here as you like, but for what it is worth, have a long talk with an accountant.
This in my opinion is the crux of starting of a new business.
Insurance brokers enjoy the fruits of the work they do,so talking it through with an accountant will help you put your thoughts together and develop the right financial track.
Insurance is one of those areas that we all need but cringe when the invioces come in.
Anyhow its Good Luck from me …..talk to an accountant for you
