    Hi all,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and helping me out.

    1. What needs reviewing? (i.e. logo, website, idea etc…)
I have recently launched an online men’s t-shirt store and would appreciate your honest feedback on my website (see signature for URL).

I would also like your thoughts on pricing.

    2. What does your business do?
The business specialises in men’s t-shirts. In particular, we offer youthful, attention-grabbing t-shirts both designed in-house and sourced from other designers and clothing companies. The range is currently small but will be expanding slowly to include more products from other designers and recognised brands.

The business consists of four t-shirt related streams:

    • Retail t-shirt sales
    • Design-your-own custom t-shirt online services
    • Wholesale t-shirt sales
    • Screen printing services

At this point in time, most marketing and business presence will be online. And therefore the importance of website quality.

    3. Who is your target market?
    Men of various demographics

    4. What specific concerns do you have?
I have gone for simplicity in my store design to make it attractive and professional in presentation. Has this worked? Would you trust your credit card details with my site? What is the site lacking?

I would also like your thoughts on pricing. We sell unique and high quality t-shirts that you won’t find at the local shops. We currently sell in the $16-$40 range for designer t-shirts with free shipping. From the website, do you see a quality product that is worth the asking price? In time sales figures will speak for themselves, but it is nice to hear what people think now upfront and adjust my strategy accordingly.

Please be as honest as you can. I will not be offended as your opinions are real and can help me improve my online store.

Thank you for your time and feedback.

    Hey man, nice site :)

    My suggestions:

Remove the ‘Pty Ltd’ from the header. Your name is long enough as it is and no-one’s really going to care that you’re a pty ltd company.

Put some big t-shirt pics on the homepage. I think your pics need to be generally bigger.

The navigation bar looks a little slapped together. The colour’s not right (maybe plain black might work?), particularly the green hover colour. The menu items would look better if the text had some padding rather than being a uniform width.

    BTW, here’s a site I like: http://www.mrvintage.co.nz.

    Good luck!
    Victor

It’s got a good layout/organisation but I think it needs a graphic designer to go over it as far as images and button design etc. It’s a bit too simple/blocky etc. I just paid a company to do some work on one of my websites for the same reasons. With some smoother edges, good font sizing, use of colours and images etc you can make it look even better.

    Hi Victor,

Thanks for your feedback. I flattened the top menu and added padding as you suggested and I think it looks a lot better – thank you! I’ve started playing with the menu colours but I think I need to experiment a bit more to find that perfect colour scheme!

I’m currently working on promo images at the moment as well. I’ll keep in mind your comments about big pics. As for the ‘Ptd Ltd’, we’ve deliberately kept this suffix for a couple of reasons which I won’t go into.

Once again, I really appreciate your comments and thank you for taking the time to check out my site for me – especially on the weekend!

    Cheers,
    Bevan

    Hi Gordon,

Thanks for the tip. I found your comments about the site being simple/blocky interesting. I have been aiming for a very simple, clean look and feel for the site, however I’m not sure I have pulled it off. I asked some friends what they thought of the site and they agreed with your comments. I think I’ll follow your suggestion and will get some help with the graphic designing. I might start with the local uni and see if there are any students wanting some hands on work experience.

I have changed the font style and increase the size later on, but will need to keep tweaking til it works!

Thanks for your time and opinions.

    Cheers,
    Bevan

Hey, yeah definitely get rid of the references to PTY LTD… IT’s not part of your logo and makes no difference to me looking a the site.

I think the site looks fairly well ordered, and you’ve achieved simplicity too. I don’t think I’d have a problem putting my credit details into the site if I wanted to buy something either, and I think that’s just due to the simple and clean presentation.

My only criticism is that it looks a little dull, it’s very black and white and I just feel like it needs something to add a little flare to it, but just be careful that it doesn’t take away from the clean and organised feel you’ve already got.

    Thanks for your feedback, LemonChip.

I have had several people suggest removing ‘Pty Ltd’ from the store name, however, I have elected to keep it at this stage just to be different and a bit obscure. There have been a lot of people who like it also.

I’ve made quite a few subtle changes to the website to add a bit of flair and excitement – but it is still very simple. I will be seeking help from a designer shortly to add some exciting colour and artwork. Thanks for your guidance around this.

But that’s a Kiwi site Victor – wash your mouth out with soap! ;)

Bevan, I like your site and the enthusiasm that you obviously have.

It’s always good to see what others are doing, and pick the best bits for your own needs.

One of our very successful eCommerce members at DN Trade runs http://www.teejunction.com.au – it’s worth having a look at (for the above reasons).

    I wish you great success.

    Cheers, Ned
