Hi-I have subcontracted and done work from home for clients etc/both onsite and offsite for this 2013 year so far- I have earnt so far subcontracting $21504.50 and working through employers for the year a total of $11282.00 and paid $1668.88 in tax. Just wondering I can claim my car/home office and other expenses-if I got my subcontracting down to a total of say-$11,000 earn in terms of net profit made-for my business minus business expenses would you say that my tax amount that had to be paid would be very high?

I am not an accountant, but according to the ATO http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/pathway.aspx?sid=42&pc=001/003/011&mfp=001/003&mnu=43752#001_003_011 you have to turn over (gross) $20K in order to claim expenses for that income. You qualify according to what you said. But the amount of claims for the car and home office you need to have designated areas plus a car log.

A chat with your accountant, NOW rather than later, would be a good idea.
