Because of my years in the industry I do know what an API is, but just googled it, and would say 90% of non techo people would fall asleep after the first 5 words.
If I want an APP or web page for something, I just want to know what I want it to do, not that it uses API’s or other internal bits and pieces. I want to enter my input and hopefully have it spit out an output or whatever its meant to do.
OK, fair call, majority wins.
I think it’s likely 99.999% percent would fall asleep after the first 5 words along with anything else about how it all works.
I intend to add to content, so I guess at a minimum I better clarify API a little, but like you said tough to do in under 100 boring words.
Then it’s definitely headed to the copywriter and make it her problem.
As an aside, I think API’s are little like “responsive” was a couple of years back no one much new what it meant and thought it was a load of crap including the vast majority of web designers…now it’s almost the first thing they pitch after “grow your business”.
April 13, 2018 at 10:04 am #1214572Up::0Hi Greg,
My feedback is without reference to other dev sites I have seen.
Referring to them, you have done an amazing job de-geeking!
I love what you are doing and the energy you have for this project.
I would be happy to offer any editorial type assistance you need for free – that I can fit in – I am in the middle of a renovation at the moment and you know what that is like…
API – isn’t that when 2 apps have a romantic relationship? – or is it when one app sends another app a gift? – like Christmas day everyday ha, ha.
Cheers

Thanks, much appreciated. Might steal the API definition it’s heaps better than the ones Bert and I have seen.
Don’t mention the word renovate anywhere near my place atm, touchy subject in our house…2 rooms with busted power and no lights (end of daylight saving has brought this one to a head)…and an expensive free standing bath sitting in it’s box under a tree in the backyard waiting for someone (I wonder who?) to finish the new bathroom so the fittings can go in.
Cheers

I have rejigged content a little but still pretty minimal. But I hope more logical.
But that’s not really why I posted. We’ve discovered a bug in our beloved Google contact form on iPhone 7… seems to be fine on any Android device and most other iPhones, so I’m still chasing feedback from mobile users especially iPhones.
On an iPhone 7 the middle of the form seems to be floating around, still usable but far from perfect… seems it’s a known iOS issue and independent of browser used (tried Safari and Chrome). I’ve applied several fixes that are supposed to fix it but it’s still happening (but not on every iPhone 7 ??)
Thanks
April 17, 2018 at 4:31 am #1214575Up::0Hi Greg,
I tested it with an iphone 6 and Safari.
The captcha does not seem to load until all of the fields are filled in and that is when the jumping around starts.
I hope you can solve it.
Cheers

Sounds like the Captcha might be part of the problem…if you’re logged into Google you don’t even get one, which may explain why it’s working on some and not others…more homework.
