    Hi peoples,
I’m Jasignature, but youse can all call me Jase if youse wanna.
Basically, I grew up in Mt Druitt (you know: Front Page “Failures” upon the Daily Telegraph), amongst other places. I failed my HSC, although my sister went on to become Dux at Uni. So in a nutshell; I’m un-educated and un-skilled …having roamed from job to job most of my life since workin’ Maccas as a spotty teenager.
I currently work an arvo shift cleaning a Hatchery and this does seem the last job out there for me, because of my age, bad back and lack of.
    So.
I guess I got no-where else to go besides “starting my own business” eventually. With this, I think I’ve come up with a pretty neat idea too.
    So.
I guess I will be learning all the ropes regarding Patent and such. Along with this is some help from x3 Dive mates. Afterall, IDEO states that great ideas never come alive alone, so I thought sharing with x3 other guys with the same interest as me but each bringing something different into it, would be the go.

…anyway, just thought I should say “Hello”.
    Cheers,
    Jase

    Thanks Peter,

Well I have the ‘conceptual-design’ firmly in mind and I’ve talked it through, with some rough drafts upon paper, with my 3 Amigos and they seemed convinced that its worth giving it a go and that in ‘theory’ it does work.

I’m lucky with my 3 Dive Buddies, that we all have something in common = Diving and we all have something different to bring into the project. You could say, we all cover the bases: Mentally Smart, Mentally Clever, Physically Smart, Physically Clever. So two of us will be working in the Workshop, bringing the “gizmo” to life and the other two will be working the Front Desk and doing the paperwork and negotiations with any big companies if needed.
This might be necessary for our first project as we don’t have the Market in the bag as the Companies do already and Manufacturing in Australia is very minimal and in my view, un-supported by the Australian Govt.

The “gizmo” that we will be making is an improvement upon a product that is made by many Companies out there with their own variations. But I believe that we have to aim higher than 25% improvement upon at least 4 factors. If we can do this, we are on a winner for a big seller. So far, we believe we have one factor already licked by as much as 50%! So that’s two markets in the Dive Industry already in the bag – so we are stoked. We need to win over the other 75% of the Market though to really make an impact.

So, here I am, to learn the ropes as best I can via this Forum and you guys. For the first time, I feel a wind of change in my sails and although I am 40 years of age, better late than never to feel the breeze of success upon my face. I feel good that I will be helping others to ‘get into the blue’ also – its like icing on the cake. Don’t get me wrong – many previous ideas have floundered due to laziness, inability and the “get rich quick scheme” attitude. But a lot of ideas have suddenly appeared not long after as a success by others he beat me to the punch. For a minute I feel angry and awful – but it washes away quickly to the realisation that “I’m on the right track at least”, which brings an unselfish smile back to my face.

We are now at the Stage where we are gathering the appropriate materials needed to make prototypes for testing. I will be doing large artistic Designs upon paper for better visualisation. We will be learning about Patent, TradeMark, Domain, etc and making the necessary steps for this.
After this, the ‘Testing’ of the Prototypes begin. We are lucky that we can pump out more than one ‘variation’ to sell upon the Market too – pending the effects we get with each Prototype.

I am very excited but also incredibly nervous about the whole thing. I do understand that it might incorporate some really hard work and dedication in my life. Take into consideration that I live in a garage with a wife and new child and I should be ‘following the flock’ like everyone else and buying a house that I can’t really afford unless I never go out again in my life and work two dead-end jobs till I die. I’m gambling that I can leap-frog my own situation and come out ahead. I’m willing to take that chance and prove that not everyone who lived in Mt Druitt is a “Failure”.

    Cheers,
    :D

40 years of age, is the best age in life to do a seachange, and that is what your doing. I have a group of friends who were all school dropouts and each one is a multi millionare, so you have started to think positive and what a change already.
The forum is a great place to ask questions, as many of us have either been there or are going through it, so ask away, and remember the question you may think the silliest is probably the question that could turn thing around your way.
    Ask away, and welcome.

    Hi Jase,

Congratulations on finding something that you are passionate about that should be able to be turned into a business – enjoy the journey!

And as has been said – the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask – so ask away.

Thanks Admin, Burgo and Kathy :)

I might have some ‘answers’ to offer, but I’m pretty sure I will have plenty of questions. I won’t hold back on the silly ones either.
I’ve always dreamed to build a Straw Bale House in the name of clever frugality or Write a good number of Books …but in the end, the best dream of all is that I might one day become successful via an Invention or few. I think nothing would make me more proud than to know that I brought something ‘special’ into the world. I want to see that people have jobs because of my product(s), for god knows I know what it is like to be out of work. I want to see people have satisfaction with my product(s) with an improvement in their quality of lifestyle.
Well, I’m sure you guys know what feeling it is that I am after. As for the ‘Multi-Millionaire’. Well I just want a ‘slice of the cake’ – not too much, as it might make me sick with fear. I’ve never had more than $10,000 to my name, so anything over $1m would just start to make me fret. Luckily I have a wife and child to spend it on me, so I don’t get too overwhelmed.;)
    cheers

    Thanks Jayne:)

I think the right attitude is the first step in hopefully a good walk towards bringing my invention to life. Its the ‘Adventure‘ of it all, even though out of the Group – I’m walking a thin line because I don’t have a Degree or Trade, just the Mortar & Pestle grind of a dead-end dull job and the threat of ‘full commitent’ to a Home Loan is trying to drag me away like a strong rip.
We go diving all along the Southern NSW Coast from the Illawarra to Eden at the end of the Sapphire. But I do know, that if nothing comes of this innovation, I will have to give Diving away and get a second dead-end job.
I should by right, succeed. Although I failed school and such, I did spend much time in Libraries, Museums and going to a lot of things that kept my mind stimulated, besides taking in as much ‘life experiences’ as I could cope with although most people around me care not for such things. I guess I was hoping that one day, I might be able to ‘achieve’ something special. I tell you what, its been a long wait in hope since the days of my boyhood.
    cheers
    :)

“It doesn’t rain – it pours”

Well I’ve come to know that once I became married, suddenly all the good-looking women wanted my attentions. Most distracting but I’m still a good man.
Now a while back I applied for a job, through work, in regards to Chicken Sexing. I work in a Hatchery and every so often a group of Chicken Sexers arrive to ‘accurately distinguish the sex of chickens’ via looking up their ‘bot-bots’. The attaction of this is ‘the money’, as one can make from $300 to $700 a day pending their speed and accuracy. If I was gonna work a dead-end job, might as well get a well paid one.
Yesterday I recieved an email stating that my application has been forwarded to the Managment Board. To me this sounds like 50% there. I guess and interview follows. I think I’m 51% sure to get it as quite a few Chicken Sexers are working beyond the Retirement threshold and looking to finish.

…I just find it ironic that finally a ‘job’ has suddenly shown some promise for me to ‘get ahead’. I’ve always felt that because of my lack of skill and education – resulting in me working dead-end jobs, I would have to come up with something special of my own accord to get ahead – hence my latest ‘invention/innovation – idea’.

Should I be greedy and do both? Should I play it safe and go for Chicken Sexer only? I mean, money is money and I’m sure I would be able to afford a good House with many a Holiday run by my wife …but would I really enjoy it all?

    …decisions, decisions.

I hope I can continue on with my Invention path, but I think I will try to juggle both until such a time as I am ‘forced’ to make a decision.
I hope the Invention wins out as I’m tired of working in jobs that revolve around …faecal matter.:(

I heard an interesting quote the other day. “the only time success comes before work is in the dictionary”

working for yourself is hard, but rewarding, you must work harder and for
longer than you ever have before to succeed.

Based on your idea I think you can make it mate. Work hard and good things will come your way!

    Best of luck!!

    Thanks Shane:)
Definately right. I am excited, but I’m also as nervous as all hell. I will admit, I do have some doubt in me about it all considering I’ve failed in so much previously. My last effort was to do a Book upon Diving. I even got some help from Tom Byron (Diver and author of x11 Books). Another great idea, but the logistics, research and costs were beyond me at this moment in time. So another ‘idea’ shelved for another rainy day. On top of this, my so-called best friend from way back, doesn’t look like he will be paying me back the $5,000 I lent him to keep his head above water so to speak. Yet here I am again, putting a bit of faith in 3 Dive Buddies.
I have worked some hard jobs, long hours, etc – I even made $10,000 at Crown Casino but after 2 weeks the adrenalin, nerves and endorthines soon left me too exhausted to continue.
I reckon this venture seems more ‘real’ to me and I’m sure it will work me hard. I think the hardest bit will be ‘giving myself’ to the demands of my family between going to work and concentrating upon this project.

…but I believe in the process. I believe this Forum works, I believe that Australian Inventors want people to succeed with their Inventions. I believe I can do it, finally given a window of opportunity.
    cheers.:)

Have you spoken with your wife about taking on both at once? If she gives you enough support that might be possible. If you’re making money and trying to make your dream happen then so much is possible.

    Thanks Suz:)

My wife and in-laws seem supportive of late …maybe they can tell I have a sense of ‘defeated’ with years of ‘trying’. My last effort was to do a Book on Diving, but it was just too beyond me at the moment (Costs, Research, Contacts, Programs, etc) and my then laptop went flying across the room to meet its doom. :o:mad:
…just returned from a bit of Diving down Jervis Bay with one of the guys I’ll be working with on this new Project, we both know that it is a success already and will only fail due to our lack of effort.
So, I’ll possibly try to do both, but if I have to go whoop-whoop inland to do a year’s worth of free training for Chicken Sexer, I might not go through with it as it takes me away from everything that is me.
I would rather do something that my life revolves around and I enjoy (even if I do get sea-sick).
My wife doesn’t like the idea of ‘no income’ from me for a year as well.

    cheers,
    Jase

Should you do try to do both, then make sure to discuss the full ramifications with your wife. She needs and deserves to be a part of this. It will be a hard slog and you’ll have to support each other as she’ll be looking after any kids you have.
