My brother is looking to start a side business selling construction and landscaping materials on small scale to begin with such as plastic film, concrete chairs, mesh, growies, stakes etc, using Facebook market and online platforms.
He has been working as a bricklayer the past few years but wants to build on that. Do you think it is better to import the materials from overseas or source locally, he doesn’t know where to source them locally at a competitive wholesale price, he thinks shipping it from china is better option.December 18, 2020 at 4:14 am #1224593Up::0Hi And Welcome to Flying Solo @Matty2020 . It is great to have you!
Thank you for joining our community and posting.
It is almost always a good idea to start new businesses with small experiments if possible thereby limiting risk.
If he imports he will need to learn a lot about the import and duty process before he begins.
Are there Australian distributors he could start with?
Cheers

Thank you paul,
He actually doesn’t have enough knowledge about Australian distributors and which he should be dealing with but he is asking around, we did import many items before from china.December 18, 2020 at 7:18 am #1224595December 18, 2020 at 11:48 pm #1224596February 21, 2023 at 7:56 pm #1243200Up::2I currently work for probably the largest supplier by volume in raw building materials in Sydney.
Anything imported must meet strict building standards or meet the requirements so that might be out of the question, though that doesn’t stop you from doing tools.
Almost everyone buys from Ox Tools (that blue brand might see everywhere).
Good luck with the venture, the tool avenue seems to work very well, take a look at Sydney Tools, Total Tools and few of the other guys.
