    Hi all,

I’m toying with the idea of importing shoes – good quality ones. That’s as far as I’ve got.

How does one find a Supplier in a foreign country where English may not be widely spoken? How do you find a Translator you can trust in a country where you don’t know anyone?

Would you recommend travelling overseas to source a suitable Supplier and are there any websites that you can access to give you more information on where you could find the goods you are looking to import?

    Thanks in anticipation….

    Hi Genx24

    Welcome to Flying Solo!

I hope you receive some feedback on your importing questions.

It would be great to find out more about you! Can I suggest that you share a bit more information about yourself? A good first step is to set up a signature and to personalise your forum profile.

    Have a great evening!

    Bye for now,
    Lucinda :)

Hi genf24, you could start by logging on to http://www.alibaba.com. Here you will find a number of overseas suppliers, however you still don’t know how honest or reliable they are. You may get a good shipment the first time and then a bad one the next time or no shipment at all. This could be Russian roulette…

It might pay to go through an importing agent to cut your teeth. They have the experience and know the good ones from the bad ones. There are many on the net but here are a couple you could talk to.

You should read as much as you can on this topic before you hand over any mony. You could also down load some this guide which could help you.

If you’re not prepared to physically fly to your target supplier location, then dealing with an agent can work wonders and reduce your risk. It can actually work out cheaper than dealing direct with the factory for many reasons. It also depends on the volume you plan on importing.
