    Hi soulclothing,

I can help you out, I’ve done a number of Online stores in a range of markets, I’m based in Melbourne, but have a number of clients all over Australia so location isn’t an issue!

If you can drop me a private message with your email address I can send you through some more information.

    Cheers
    Brendan

    Hi there,

If you decide to extend to Perth I would love to have a chat with you. Might be able to provide a bit of a discount as well considering I would like to get some more portfolio pieces. :)

I’m based just south of Sydney and, coincidentally, I’m working on an e-commerce site for a fashion shop right now.

I’d love to have a chat with you about your requirements,

    John

    Thank you, Leah! :D

We’re just north of Sydney and would love to help! Like Leah mentioned, online stores are our specialty. Would love to have a chat if you’re still looking for someone to help.

Have you considered using a ready-made wordpress website?
Woothemes.com have a lot of woocommerce templates that are very well suited to fashion sales. Plugins are available for a Paypal shopping cart and Australia Post shipping calculation. You could pick a style you like then go shopping for a wordpress developer to get it installed and/or customised to your requirements.
I did our website based on the Woocommerce Statua theme. Sorry I cant offer my services – too much on my plate right now.

Once you get your site built, contact my wife Michelle (Adoria Photography) if you ever need any fashion photography done. We are in Sydneys Hills District and have a small home studio. Our website blog has some recent teen fashion pictures she shot for Hills Alive Magazine at the main square at Rouse Hill Town Centre for several of the stores there.

    Cheers, Steve

Woocommerce is simply a fork of the free plugin Jigoshop. And happy you had no problems, but both Jigoshop and Woocommerce have quite a few bugs, so (*touch wood*) you’ve been fortunate.

Wordpress shouldn’t be used for a dedicated ecommerce site, you should use a dedicated ecommerce CMS (or make sure your developer does). WordPress is fine for a site that has a small ecommerce section with a few products, but it won’t scale (or be as bug free) as using a proper ecommerce CMS.

Right tool for the right job, as they say.

I’ve never used jigoshop, and I agree I did have to work through quite a few niggling bugs along the way with some of the plugins.
The woothemes forums are good though as are the support team.

I was really doing a lot more customization than most because I needed to integrate a 3rd party photo gallery plugin to support easy import of hundreds of photos at a time and integrate these with products that can be bought with the shopping cart and payment features. I also needed to do specific things like hover zoom and crop photo details in a proofing gallery.
Most of the templates woothemes sell have demos based on simple product sales (eg clothing) so hopefully it might be a better fit if all you are after is simple clothing sales shop.

I wouldn’t attempt this though without having a WordPress developer on hand to help you get things configured and iron out any issues. In my day job im an IT architect, but hadn’t really dabbled in wordpress before, so there was a bit of a learning curve. I was amazed though how many great free or low cost plugins are available to extend features of the website.

    Cheers, Steve

Indeed. Though you’d be amazed at how any of them are full of bugs and can cause your entire site to break, even some well known plugins.

Tip: Always (ALWAYS) make sure your entire site is backed up and you’re are able to rollback if anything goes wrong before adding or updating any plugin.

    Did I say “always”?

Pfft, where’s the excitement in that?
It’s much better to be up at 4am, on your 15th cup of coffee since midnight and hoping you can remove all the broken code before your client wakes up at 7am. ;)

It’s also well worth having a staging/test environment if you want to make sure that plugins/extensions/changes won’t break anything.

Me thinks that advice was more for the non-developers, those managing their own wordpress site for their own business. I’ve had a few “Help me!” calls at some odd hours.
