    Hello Flying Soloists

Does anyone have a preferred networking option?

I’ve been to a few BNIs, 4Networking, I prefer working with entrepreneurs, so have been connecting with AWS, the Entourage, Blue Chilli, Rare Birds etc. I haven’t committed to any particular group yet.

What are your recommendations from a soloist’s perspective.

Looking forward to your responses and thanking you in advance.

    Emma

I also work with entrepreneurs Emma. I prefer networking online. Travel time is too costly either side of physical networking. I also don’t get on with the forced within-group referral expectation of some groups. Brenda’s got something going over at http://smartforums.com.au/ and I can introduce you. They don’t do that and they seem to be well-managed.

For me, Facebook has been the friendliest place for meeting people and the occasional conversion along the line. Then LinkedIn. Not too bad here and some really nice folk but a small number of people make life awkward, trolling people around their posts looking for something negative to say, putting words in their mouth, or being cocky – just the usual forum stuff and probably happens at physical meetings. Many people here enjoy business advice and then leave rather than contributing so we never get to know them. Personal messaging doesn’t seem to be as common here but its great – many don’t know it exists. Happy to try that out and find out more about what you do!

Thanks Paul that’s really useful. I don’t like the forced referral system either, I think it might damage my brand if I refer to someone who isn’t good at what they do then it will reflect back on me. For extroverts BNI is good but it’s very showy and I’ve heard that it’s high volume low pay type work. Thanks for offering to introduce me to Brenda. I will check out http://smartforums.com.au/ and let you know. Yes, as Taylor Swift says haters going to hate, trollers going to troll :)
