    Hi,

I am a writer based in Victoria. My main employer is based in Sydney and is doing a meet and greet with all their freelancers. I would love to go and meet the people I’ve been communicating with for the past year. I would have to get there on my own dime (most of the other freelancers are Sydney based)

Would my travel expenses be tax deductible for this sort of event? I’ve never had to claim travel expenses as I am usually a hermit at home :)

    Thank you

Claim travel and accommodation expenses because it is business related.
Ditch the hermit and learn to fly, it is totally invigerating

    Hi Sarah,

I agree with Burgo – it will be well worth your while to go, and the expenses are legitimate business ones.

Hope you have a great time, and that you make some fantastic contacts too :)

If there is sufficient nexus (link) in creating future business income then it will generally be claimable. However you may want to reduce the claim amount for some private element IF you stay on after the event for a small holiday for example.
