ok, so (deap breath), my website launched yesterday. Its been in development for awhile, and the business was only an idea for even longer. And the big day is finally here.
Now, can I please have some constructive feedback, impressions, ideas, feelings off the site etc from people who are not related to me or my friends haha. (shop section and the info sections too please). First off however, I know there are a few low resolution photos on there that don’t look great. They are my first priority to replace with new clear photos, I just need the website up and running and now I will go back to sort those few out. they will be done with in the next week I would think.
O.K., I really love the site and my products, and hope others do to, but am ready for some constructive feedback.
Thanks!
Oh and P.S. it is an online party goods store.December 8, 2015 at 3:36 am #1191834Up::0Hi Helen, congratulations on your new site Exciting times for you!
Firstly I think the site looks nice, colourful and bright.
You’re a bit thin on written content on your home page. Try and put some copy on there somewhere or search engines will care little about this page.
In fact a lot of the product pages have very little text too. Expand your descriptions as this text content is a big part of how Google decides where you’ll rank.
You don’t have any meta descriptions on any of the pages I checked. Meta tags don’t affect your SE rankings at all but they do play an important role in your pre-sales messaging when your site appears in search results…
If you don’t have a meta description set, Google will just grab a random snippet of text to use as the description in it’s search results instead which generally isn’t the best at convincing people to click through to your website.
It doesn’t look like you’ve got Google Analytics installs, or maybe it’s been implemented in a way I’m unfamiliar with. If you don’t have a way to track your site’s performance then you’re going to be shooting in the dark when it comes to deciding how to improve it in the future, and relying on “gut feel” is always a bad idea in that area.
That’s what I found with about 5 minutes of searching. None of those are a big deal. Very easy to fix. Looks like you’re off to a great start though!
December 8, 2015 at 4:32 am #1191835Up::0Hi @Helen27 great looking website and mobile friendly as well. @Stuart B has raised some good points the main issues with the website are all content based. There are meta descriptions but they are not well created and neither are the Title tags. There are no H1 or H2 tags on the home page. All these help search engines better understand your website. You should start a Google Webmaster account and add your website and also the XML sitemap which I can see has been created – https://www.thepartypackage.com.au/sitemap.xml.
I attached an image showing some content SEO issues for the home page.

Webmaster will help you understand what to do next and the Webmaster Forum has great information.
Good luck with the website.
December 8, 2015 at 5:12 am #1191836Up::0Hello Helen,
Looks good.
Did you know your whole website is being server secured?
This may slow it down under load.
Normally you just run HTTPS when people give you private and payment details.Also every time I added something to the cart it would keep scrolling me up to the top of the page.
I’m not sure if you have them but I would make pre made packages.
e.g. clown theme party with x,y,z enough for 20 kids.December 8, 2015 at 5:16 am #1191837Up::0Oh and forgot to add.
Your phone number was way to hidden and in small print.
If there is only one number people can contact you on then put it at the top of the page.December 8, 2015 at 5:17 am #1191838Up::0Gizmo, post: 225357, member: 43147 wrote:Did you know your whole website is being server secured?

Although there may be a small speed decrease Google thinks its a good idea.

December 8, 2015 at 5:18 am #1191839Up::0Hi There,
I like the design, I was initially impressed when landing on the page and it was pretty easy to figure out what it was that you do.
The colours are cool but the biggest issue you’ve got is that it doesn’t attract your eye to the right areas of the screen that involve the visitors taking action.
You’ve also got some duplicate content concerns with the same product being access from multiple different URLs
https://www.thepartypackage.com.au/avengers-balloon-weight?search=balloon%20weight
https://www.thepartypackage.com.au/avengers-balloon-weight
https://www.thepartypackage.com.au/shop-by-product/balloon-weights/avengers-balloon-weightProduct page content is very thin so you should try to add more detailed descriptions, videos and get as many reviews as you can.
Cheers

Funny they mention that on a page that is not HTTPS.Personally I think use it where its due as I described above.
I think it should always be on when you have logged into a portal or when use APIs.December 8, 2015 at 5:46 am #1191841Up::0I am getting great feedback, thank you! I will reply individually for more clarification of a few points.

Thanks for the feedback. I am attempting to work on the SEO now. As a first timer at selling online (however not my first business) I am a little unsure I am doing it right. Heres an example of how I am filling in the SEO section of a particular product.
Product is:Avengers giant scene setter
Page title: Avengers giant scene setter
H1 value: Avengers huge wall mural
Meta tag description: Avengers huge scene setter wall mural
Meta tag keywords: Avengers,party,decorationsAm I way off? Is this on track? How could I improve it?

Thanks for that! I can edit the product pages myself, but not sure what I can do about the homepage. I will contact the web developers and see what I can do. The developers have also submitted the google site map but said it will take a week or so for google to upload. I will look into the google webmaster account.

And I do intend to introduce complete packages, after all I am “the party package” haha. I want people to be to be able to choose from a basic package for x amount of kids, (might include all table wear, some balloons and candles etc) and a delux package (Which will be much more comprehensive). Nice and easy one click shopping for customers!December 8, 2015 at 6:23 am #1191845Up::0Byron Trzeciak, post: 225360, member: 56118 wrote:Hi There,I like the design, I was initially impressed when landing on the page and it was pretty easy to figure out what it was that you do.

I had entered products into multiple categories, which i had thought would be a good thing? As people could find products in one area rather than going through multiple, which they may not do. For example assorted colour latex balloon, are not just in the “Balloon” category but in each theme. This way if you are shopping for “Batman” party supplies and get all the specific batman stuff you want, you will also see the balloons and think oh yeah, a few balloons that a good idea I will grab them too, where as you may not have gone to the balloons page to find them otherwise, as you were focusing simply on Batman. I have of course been carefully only to put products I thought were related on a page, I havent put evry random product on each page.
Can you clarify for me why I shouldn’t have one item listed in multiple categories?December 8, 2015 at 6:36 am #1191846Up::0I would have more of your personality shine through on the about us page. Make a 60 second explainer video. Get someone with an SLR to shoot a video of you with good lighting, and good audio if possible. Just say everything you wrote down, then shoot some “B-Roll” like slow shots panning past your products, or someone actualy using your products at an event. Get someone to edit that all together with an intro.
December 8, 2015 at 8:35 am #1191847Up::0Hi Helen,
Web marketing must start with you satisfying the needs of potential customers.Search engine referrals should be your best source of new clients but that means you need to anticipate what info they will seek.
Google tells me that if people are searching for “party supplies” or “party packages” that they very frequently want a supplier near them.
Where are you? You will lose sales if you don’t tell people on EVERY page that you are in Aust. You should attract a lot more visitors if you can show them you are in a specific major city.
My best guess is that you are somewhere in Victoria. Don’t hide your location, use it to advantage!
Google is using location as a ranking factor in its search results more and more. If you hide your location on your website, you can’t use this ranking factor and you will lose lots of site traffic.
Good luck and regs,
JohnW -
